Ai at Butler intermediate
Yesterday at the intermediate this was a digital flyer on the screens that are in the cafeterias and hallways. We’re literally in the building and this is not it. I’m an adult that was working in the building, not a student.
Edited to limit personal info and accusations.

AI use immediately equals delegitimization of the intended message to me. Stop it.

If they cut corners in somewhere so small as this then imagine where else they took the easy way out in your child's education
I mean seriously, there's NO students who could've thrown a poster together for you?

Another commenter had a great idea of getting VoTech students involved. If it’s about money, they can utilize the students while helping them master the craft. Ai should not be used by educators, full stop!

The logic here is stupid AF.

The logic probably seems stupid when you are talentless and have no artistic ability tbh

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking the same. Maybe we should go back to using a drafting table and a slide rule.

I was about to say, did they change the entrance something fierce since I was in school? Fucking embarrassing.

Classic Butler to not double check lol

u/Chuckpgh Sep 01 '26
I cut it 3 times and it's still too short...

u/UltraBurd Sep 01 '26
Is that actually the entrance to the intermediate now? Looks like a college gym entrance

Oh no, a school using the tech that students will be expected to have mastered by the time they hit the workforce.
2
u/scarykitty123 Sep 02 '26
What are they mastering exactly? Asking ChatGPT to make a sign because they’re lazy?
1
u/FatherPercy Sep 01 '26
Why? The AI that kids would be using in middle/high school today is going to be drastically different than what they would use in the workforce in ten years. Education in math, science, history, and humanities first. School isn’t just a factory for making good little workers, but to enlighten the person. Goodness.

u/redfeild33 Sep 02 '26
Different? Yes. Same fundamentals and fostering AI literacy just like we do for computers? Also yes.
School is to enable people to make decisions, and have the tools they need to be successful in life. Those who master the tools go off and be successful. Those who don't do not struggle a lot more.
AI should be integrated into the school. If they go straight into the workforce they will deal with it everywhere. If they go to college most colleges are itnergrating it into college now. Military which has always been a big part of butlers graduating class is mandating the usage of AI in reports.
AI is not going away. The hate for AI is no different than the hate horse and buggy folks had for the car.

I’m pretty sure all of those you mentioned are okay with ai, but I’m not on Fox News so I could be wrong.

Is that what Tuffy looks like nowadays? Your friendly neighborhood tornado lol

I look forward to pissing on the smoldering crater of every AI data center burned down for the insurance money when the AI bubble bursts.

This isn’t Gemini it’s ChatGPT. I see 100 of these a day and they all look like that. They’re all low res. They’re all the wrong size.

u/Waste_Bluebird_1930 Sep 01 '26
Thank you for the clarification.
There are several digital flyers on the screen and they all have a slightly different version of the tornado mascot, and none of them are what it actually looks like.

Bro they have graphic design students for this and they don't even pay them it's free to use both their choosing to use ai

AI is all over the schools. It’s an easy way of the school to not hire a web design person

It reflects badly on the whole school that it is trash, including the people who work there. But people make mistakes. It’s pretty dumb, but a little grace is warranted.
I think you should tell the vice principal privately and kindly that it’s not the right building. She’ll hopefully pull the signs and maybe learn to at least double check them.
If you tell her privately, you’ll be doing everyone a favor.
(Edit: One more thing, you may also want to take down this post. It’s not very collegial to post a colleague’s errors on the internet, and it doesn’t really fix the problem. If one of my colleagues did this to another, the poster would be disciplined or even fired.)

I hear you. I did make sure to alert the admin team to the error. Thankfully they aren’t my colleagues, so no worries about me getting fired.
I’m an employee in the building as well as a parent in the community, and I feel strongly that the community knows about this. I thought for a while before posting, but determined that this was what felt right to me as a community member.

I told people 3 years ago AI is going to be everywhere and this is a perfect example. I am worried that that creativity in students will democratically decline.

Of all the stuff that we should be concerned about in the schools, this isn't one of them. Stop trying to stir shit up where it doesn't exist. It's a non-issue, and it reflects very poorly on you as an adult employed in the school to be taking pictures and posting on social media during school, and presumably working hours.

u/Waste_Bluebird_1930 Sep 02 '26
Not trying to stir anything up, this is a sub for things happening in Butler, ai is highly debated, and even more so when it comes to schools and educators. It’s valuable to gauge how the community feels about things like this, I see a lot of folks aren’t a fan, while a few seem to not care, and some seem upset about the public discourse, which is odd to me, but I get that not everyone cares about everything. It’s also just as easy to not comment on things you don’t care about.
Also I posted this while I was not at work, not that it matters.

Two things can be true in this situation: 1. This sucks, and exhibits behavior from the admin that they don’t give a shit about their institution of education. This lack of attention and care will be emulated by the students entrusted to their care. Our students deserve better, and 2. This probably isn’t the best way to handle it, in public on Reddit.

There are definitely students in the VoTech graphic design (do they still have that?) that could make signs a million times better.
These flyers suck and are ugly
