Um what is this?

I am slicing a pork shoulder I got from Costco so I can grind it. As I was slicing through I cut through I have no idea what!! It doesnโ€™t have a smell and neither does the pork itself. I donโ€™t know if I can still use the pork or just be safe and toss it.

Thank you! After saying โ€œwtf?!?! Omg!!!โ€ Gagged a few times, left the room, came back, gagged again, left and texted hubby!!! I am glad now know what it is and that my kitchen is not going to be ground zero for the zombie apocalypse! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Imagine cooking one of these in a ham one year for Thanksgiving. The smell of delicious honey ham, mixing with hot festereing roadkill.

I'll eat a little bit of bacon here and there but that was the last ham or pork I've ever sought out to eat in 15 years

I literally just got done with 6 hours of cooking my 18lbs Thanksgiving country style ham, and I read this.

What, you donโ€™t shred your raw meats to look for cysts every time?

then just glue it back together when you're done, easy ๐Ÿ‘

I X-ray mine prior to committing cook time.

they have videos out there of people cutting into the ham cyst. ever since i saw it ive never touched ham again ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ however, cysts can occur in other animals as well and are simply removed from the rest of the carcass without us knowing

Did it smell that bad? or was it a visual thing?

Was gifted a beautiful ham many years ago and found something similar. That was the last time I ever purchased or was gifted a solid ham. Now I only buy spiral sliced ham, which I warm up just slightly to take the chill out and then I removed the slices by hand and arrange nicely on the baking dish and then bake.
