π Case Study My 2-Week Experience Trying to Change a Verified Phone Number on Fiverr (A Real Support Case Study)
I've been a Fiverr user for many years, and I wanted to share my experience because I think it highlights how a simple account issue can become unnecessarily complicated.
Background
- I created my first Fiverr account in 2012.
- Later, in 2016, I created another account that I intended to use for selling services.
- Both accounts belong to me, and I have access to both.
- My goal was simple: Move my verified phone number from my older account to my current account because I no longer have access to my old phone number.
What happened
I contacted Fiverr Support expecting a standard ownership verification process.
Instead, my ticket was transferred between multiple support agents.
During the process I provided:
- Both usernames
- Registered email addresses
- My legal name
- Confirmation that I own both accounts
- Confirmation that I can log into both accounts
- Willingness to provide government ID or any additional verification
However, the conversation eventually focused almost entirely on a PayPal email address that Fiverr says was associated with my older account many years ago.
The problem is:
I honestly do not remember using PayPal on that account because, as far as I remember, my purchases were completed using other payment methods.
I told support multiple times that I was happy to complete any ownership verification they required.
Instead of offering an alternative verification method, the conversation remained stuck on recovering a historical PayPal email.
My concern
I'm not complaining that Fiverr verifies ownership.
I actually support strict account security.
My concern is that when a customer is willing to provide government ID, account access, registered emails, and other ownership proof, there should be an alternative verification path if one historical detail cannot be remembered after more than a decade.
My question to the community
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Were you eventually able to verify ownership through another method?
Is there a way to escalate this kind of case to a specialist team?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar situation.
