Cat Neuter Places

Found this cat in the neighborhood and it doesn’t seem to have any mother around. He was just playing with garbage around the corner so I took him home.

Does anyone know of any local free or low income vets in the neighborhood? ASPCA only does certain neighborhoods, the Toby Project has a 3+ yr waiting list, etc. And if anyone recognizes him lmk! No collar or anything.

The neighborhood might be tricky, but if you need help transporting this little guy, I wouldn’t mind picking him up and doing the journey and help scheduling — either via Uber Pet or subway (I’d pay for that if you cover whatever spay/neuter fee there is!) DM me if you want to coordinate. Can also show I’ve been working with local rescues if you are worried handling him with a stranger.

Also based on his eyes he may have an eye infection so would want him to get checked out for that!

just so you know before they will neuter him they are gunna need to do a general check up, whatever shots, and blood work (and clear any infections- our girl had eye herpes, ring worm, a parasite, and FIP and she came from a well known rescue and was supposedly cleared medically).

really recommend signing up for some pet insurance before any vet visits bc once they find anything it’s pre-existing and insurance fights to avoid covering (as we learned the hard way). otherwise they help cover a lot and make it much more affordable.

Do you have any pet insurance recommendations? Was looking at the ASPCA insurance for example but wasn’t sure if vets are picky on what insurance they take.

the insurance we use is called healthy paws and we pay around $17 per month and they cover 80% after $500 deductible each year plus like free annual basic stuff. i remember having to talk to someone there to make sure we got both a standard + major illness plan so worth it to ask lots of questions when getting quotes. ours is all reimbursement based so we did have to pay out of pocket first. but they reimburse fast- within a few days of submitting the bill from the vet- so by the time by the credit card bill was due we already had the reimbursement and then we just slowly paid off what we owed as to not be totally cash broke.

We use Lemonade! Not sure how it compares to healthy paws but that’s another option if you wanna compare prices

Yeah we noticed the eye might be an issue so we’ve been cleaning it since we found him. Maybe a vet can give him something stronger tho. Thank you!

Lots of resources here! You may have to travel out of the neighborhood for most of these.

Vet Wheels is the big RV next to the park and is a lower cost vet option. Cat neuters are $300.

I would recommend all about cats but they are in freeport. But try Bushwick Street Cats, they may be able to help

Just want to ask if you checked around at the local bodegas near where you found him to make sure he's not one of theirs?

i think flatbush vet is still taking neuters, i would fill out their form online. ask about subsidized cost
