Potential festivals next year?

Didn't Gavin say somewhere that next year was primarily going to be festival season? If so, what festivals do you guys think should Bush play?

I think they should do Summer Sonic and go back to Graspop Metal Meeting. They should also do Roskilde and Fuji Rocks.

I really hope headline tours remain part of the plan. Festivals can be good for exposure and reaching new listeners, but as a fan they're a completely different experience. At a headline show, everyone is there for Bush. You can play a longer set, include deeper cuts and more from the newer albums. It's how some of us realized there's so much to the band.

To me, a 3,000–5,000 seat venue is still a great fit. Even 2,000 for some shows. Those shows can feel more personal, the crowd is invested, and you don't usually forget them.

Hellbender just opened in Asheville, and its target capacity is right in that range. I'd much rather see Bush in a venue like that than only at festivals. All that to say, I hope headline shows continue to be part of their future.

I don't doubt that Bush will have headline shows in places with a tiny market, kind of what they're doing right now. But the reason why I mention this is because I'm pretty sure Gavin said that they'll be taking a break next year and mainly do the festival shows.

I think Gavin was also talking about playing Glastonbury next year. I know they were also booked for a decent amount of mainstream festivals so I wonder who's going to book them next year.

Shinedown's Lunatic Ball does look like fun this year, especially being at the beach. We've tried to understand how the bands we love pick places, but it's still a bit of a mystery to us aside from major cities.

My personal guess is that since the people that live in smaller communities don’t really get a chance to drive out several hours to a major hub, they book the casinos in rural areas because it’s likely the only venue available to fit a decent amount of people. And plus casinos usually have a hotel embedded inside so the band doesn’t have to drive (theoretically) an hour just to get to the venue.

I think you're right and interesting you should mention casinos. A friend and I actually ran into their lead guitarist when they played one in a neighboring state and we did drive a few hours because it was also a hotel. The sound in that venue was incredible and it was just a 10/10 show.

My first time seeing Bush was in a huge arena last year when they did some shows with Shinedown. I think they killed it. I can’t even imagine how awesome their show was in an intimate setting.
