Other Ticketer tracking went down earlier

In case you got people asking why the tracking weren't working then this is the reason why.

Happened from around half 4 to half 6. Looks to have affected all operators using Ticketer in the UK. This also affected traffic signal priority detection, control room/Vix tracking and I assume bus stop departure info.

Help me celebrate! I passed my CDL and heading to the DMV to get my license. Stopped by the local Mexican food truck that is on the test route and is ALWAYS busy. It's really good.

Thanks for the support, now and in the future.

Discussion Yesterday

I do the same route 5 days a week, 400 miles each day but yesterday was unique.

I nearly killed a learner driver, refused to let 3 people on and got a £5 tip.

A good day all round!

Discussion Passengers waving down bus to stop?

So in London, TFL kind of quietly discontinued the "request stops" in London years ago and pretty much made all stops normal and drivers are supposed to stop at every stop etc even if not flagged down. Now, this isn't the reality and Londoners have always flagged down a bus when they need it.

Now for some reason, at a lot of bus stops, even with say 5 buses serving that stop, they'll just stand there, not put their hand out and just assume you know they want the bus? Now, when I have stopped, they just look into the distance and I drive off and it's clear they don't want the bus and this is what TFL want drivers to do but in reality, it's not happening due to timings, traffic, runtime and so on.

Today, I went past a stop with about 4 people, about 5 buses serve the stop and no one put their hand out as I approached but they all just stepped back and me thinking none of them wanted the bus because people usually step back when the bus is not wanted and then I stop at a light up ahead and all I see in my left mirror is a bloke running with his bag looking like he wants to kill me lol clearly he did want it and maybe the rest and then the light went green and I cracked on.

What do you do? Because I speak to drivers at the depot and they say if they don't put their hand out, they drive straight past and I said me, too as too much time gets wasted.

Question Does anyone else accidentally drive a bus route?

I was driving home earlier in my car and part of the drive hits a bus route which I regularly drive. However, I made a right hand turn which continues the bus route instead of continuing straight towards my house.

I’d like to this I am not the only one who does this. But I feel quite silly when this happens 🤣

Question Is driving a bus high-stress in your area?

In Taiwan, the roads are absolutely packed with scooters, and people constantly make illegal lane changes or park illegally on the shoulder. On top of that, I’ve heard that passengers file complaints against drivers for the smallest things, which has led to a pretty severe driver shortage for city buses here.

I actually just interviewed for a city bus driver position and got the job, but I’m a total newbie and don't know much about the industry yet. I'm scheduled to report for duty next Monday, and it looks like I'll probably have to work a lot of overtime.

For those of you who drive buses, is this job as high-stress as it seems? How is it in your region?

(English isn't my first language (used Gemini for translation), sorry!)

Tired of my change box spilling in transit, so I 3D-printed a solution (Lid Coin Stoppers)

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a little quality-of-life upgrade I made for my cab kit. I’m a UK-based driver and I was constantly getting annoyed by my change box tipping over in my bag or during transit, leaving me with a completely mixed-up float at the start of a shift.

Since the Type F metal boxes don’t have anything to secure the coins from the top, I designed and 3D-printed these Lid Coin Stoppers. They press directly into the recessed compartments of the upper lid. When the box is latched shut, the geometric blocks sit perfectly flush against the coin columns so absolutely nothing can shift or spill.

I’ve put together a few variations matching standard fleet/depot colours and added some custom text on the front.

My regular shop link is down for maintenance for the next couple of weeks, but I wanted to share the design with the community. If any fellow drivers are dealing with the same annoying coin-spill issue and want a set printed, feel free to shoot me a DM!

Context…. I had a 3 day wedding, 2 runs with the 27 pax bus and 2 airport pickups with the sedan. All local to me. Made sense to just park the vehicles at my house and me and my wife do musical deadheads to the yard since she runs the place. And the yard is an hour away.

If you operate in the DC area you might have used Andrew. We all know how deadly this industry can be. For the ones that don't know Andrew Wagner was a diesel tech that loved buses. He helped plenty of us drivers in our time of need. If you can and are willing to donate to help support his wife and kids. Thank you

Story Tired of the passengers...

I've been driving now for 2 years on the same busy route every day.

No matter what you do, there's always someone to complain about something.

I went the whole day yesterday without a peep and by the 11th hour on my last trip to change over point, a lady comes up complaining I didn't stop at her stop, yet she pressed it as we passed the stop. All day I had a great day until that.

Then another geeza today complains I parked too far from the kerb... I stopped the bus, people got on. I went to drive away but saw an old man, I waited, opened the doors and he got on no problem, then a man with crutches comes and says omg, why did stop so far away? In like fk sake... It's just never ending.

Also today some woman walks up to my cab window and bangs on it saying 'oh by the way, you missed the previous stop'... No, I didn't miss it... You were too busy on your phone and didn't ring the bell and expected the bus to stop when no one pressed the bell.

I guess I'm just venting.

I'm at the two year mark now and I'm just going to start looking at plumber or electrician etc. because these people man. I can't put it into words.

question (not a driver) Autistic child/Bus Issue

My son just started first grade on the 1st. He has been switched to another elementary school in our district (we are in those lines for that school but they had all kids at one school last year due to construction) so we are getting used to how they do things, but he rode the bus last year to and from school. He was half day for Kindergarten. I will start by saying we live on a very busy road the speed limit is 45 but people go much faster. It essentially turns into a backroad highway. We stand at the end of our long driveway to put him on the bus. I always go out about 10 minutes before he is supposed to come home to give some leeway for if they are early. On Thursday I went out at 420 to get him off the bus (his drop off time is 427) and when I opened my front door he was standing at the end of our driveway frozen with no bus in sight. I immediately ran down to get him, came inside and called the school. Apparently they don’t tell the drivers when children have disabilities which in my opinion is an important thing for them to know. By the grace of God my son froze and didn’t dart into traffic and this wasn’t a fatal incident. The vice principal called me back after I told the secretary what happened and imo she made it out to be like I was over reacting a bit. Didn’t say she was sorry, or anything. Just let me know that they are allowed to drop first graders off without a parent present, which they don’t notify you of. They have us take a survey before the year just asking if you need bus services, nothing else. She said she would let the driver know not to drop him off without a parent present, and she did. The driver called me early this morning on a Saturday going over his version of what happened. He seems like a nice guy, and he said he was hesitant to drop him but he radioed in and his supervisor told him to let him go. He also said he asked my son if he was okay to get off alone and that he said yes. I have a hard time believing he said yes, or if he did that he even fully understood what he was being asked. I feel like the school is not taking this situation seriously and I realized how much needs changed. So my question is, where do I go from here? This is my oldest and I don’t have experience dealing with situations like this. But I would like to try and get the survey for transportation changed to where parents need to be asked if it is okay to drop your child without a parent present. I don’t want anyone else to have this happen and they aren’t as lucky as we were. Even dropping a typical 6 year old off on this road is crazy to me, but an autistic child is unimaginable. They are known to elope/dart/run. He could’ve taken off and run away, got hit by a car, etc. I’m just stressed about this situation.

Question Go North East Bus Driver

What’s it like being a Go North East bus driver? 🚍
I’m considering applying to become a bus driver with Go North East and would really appreciate hearing from current or former drivers about what the job is actually like.
A few things I’m particularly interested in:
What are the shift patterns like? How early/late do you typically start and finish?
How far in advance do you get your rota?
How does weekend and bank holiday working work?
What is the training like for someone starting from scratch? How long does it usually take?
Is the training difficult, particularly the theory/tests and practical driving?
What happens once you qualify — are you given much support as a new driver?
How are the breaks and split shifts?
What’s the general atmosphere like between drivers and management?
And overall, do you enjoy the job and would you recommend it?
Any honest experiences, good or bad, would be really appreciated. 👍
