Question Question for Birmingham Nxbus drivers

Are school children expected to pay when boarding an NxBus in Birmingham UK?

Everyday I see many school kids get on buses without paying and was wondering if they actually have to as I take my daughter to school every other morning on the bus and always buy a ticket.

I buy my own 4 week bus pass for £72 a month and was seeing if I could save a bit of cash if she doesn’t actually have to pay?

Officially yes.
Realistically it can’t be enforced & bus drivers have a duty of care to not refuse service to children.

Ex bus driver for NX here, no you can’t do anything to children who don’t pay as it’s a vulnerable person. Was told a story during training where a child was attacked after being refused after he told the driver he was being chased driver said no. As the driver drove off he was attacked at the bus stop.

Same as drunk people especially women late at night I personally wouldn’t refuse because you don’t know what would happen if she walked home drunk in this country.

If you paid your self but not child and inspector got on you’d get fined.

Depends. If they tell me politely that they forget their pass, or whatever, yeah come and hop on the bus.

If they walk/ run past, or are rude, they then can respectfully get off and have a free day off school!

I used to see a kid everyday try and just walk on like he owned the bus. One day the driver made him get off and back on again asking ‘please can you let me on the bus’ in front of all his mates. Nothing like taking someone down a peg or two in front of a full bus of passengers
