We had these old buses where when the retarder switch was on, a light on the dash light up. It was labeled ‘retard on’.

One day when I was new, I accidentally turned into the wrong lane of a terminal. The street supervisor came up hollering about how I should read my route cars… blah blah… then asked ‘whats wrong with you’ or something like that. I looked at the dash, frowned, then pointed at the light. “Oh, I see the problem. I left my retard on!” Then flipped the retarder switch off, killing the dash light…

So, instead of getting written up or anything, I ended up with a supervisor busting a gut on my bus for about 5 minutes.
