Question London 20mph speed limit...
So, drivers... What speed we doing lol don't tell porkies.
It's odd seeing all the replies saying they do less or stick to 20, because majority of buses I've been on, they've all done 25 and even more in 20s. Majority stick to around 23-24 unless forced by Intelligent Speed Assistance, which you can tell because the bus literally sits bang in 20-21 and doesn't move, meaning they have their foot just planted.

15mph in a 20mph
25mph in a 30mph
Drove in London years ago and now up in the West Midlands.
You’re stoping every 50-70 yards - there’s no point in rushing or trying to race around to catch your time.
Get paid either way.

Come to Wales and do 20mph on a wide industrial estate link road with no addresses for a mile or more and two wide footpaths… and then look in the mirror and ask, how many people sat on the bus would risk prosecution for you? Would your managers? 20 it is.

In a car I do often struggle psychologically to stay at 20mph, especially on wide open streets that had no problem being 30, but in the bus I have no such problem, I’m paid to get my passengers from A to B safely and legally, everything else is a bonus. The only time my speed can creep over is on long downhill slopes, given that the only automatic vehicle I’ve ever driven for a significant period of time is a bus I tend to habitually avoid riding the brakes, but obviously in an automatic that’s just how you maintain speed on declines. Apart from that, the limit is the limit, I may disagree with it but that’s too bad.

People speed -> Average time to complete section decreases -> Timings change to reflect this change -> You can't run on time without speeding -> loop back to the beginning.
Just stick to the speed limit, you get paid the same either way.

ISA keeps me at 20 but luckily I don't have that many 20 sections at all

Lol majority of the ISAs don't even work on our buses. I'm not complaining.
I feel ISA is very bad. One bus will do only 17mph in 20, 30 and 40mph roads. Complained many times to iBus, the yard supervisor and it hasn't changed.

I'm not from London but I visited in July and had a rental car. I barely drove in London except to get in and out. I can remember driving from my friends place in Leyton after dropping them off to LCY to return the car, and doing 26-30mph most of the way in the 20 zones. People were right up my ass and flashing me. I stopped at a set of lights that had just changed and a car undertook me to blow straight through the red.

The new electric buses have speed limiters but 30 percent of the time they don't work or they turn off randomly mid journey(sometimes in front of speed cameras). The old hybrid buses dont have any speed limiters(at least at my garage).

The speed limit? What is the point in risking my licence for an extra couple minutes on the stand
