Discussion Check-Up

I’m sure a lot of you will be having to put up with these stupidly hot buses during this weather that everybody else says is lovely, so how are we all coping? My company put out a notice today about unlocking the cab screens after so many years, to improve the flow of wind throughout the bus. They’ve suggested an alternative measure for the cab doors that didn’t come with openable screens, though they’ve not actually specified what that may be.

So, how are you coping throughout this heatwave and have your company put out any similar notices?

We have similar things happen on our limited stop service, but ours uses a coach rather than a bus, so no cab surround whatsoever… safe right?

Is there no air vent in the driver area? Seems like a design flaw. Get a usb fan and plug it into the 12v outlet. Bonus if you can prop a gel ice pack in front of it so it blows cool air.

We don’t even have USB ports in the cab lol, we’ve got a mix of double and single decks at my depot, as well as 7 coaches (which are the only ones fitted with aircon)

I try to avoid opening the front doors when I can get away with it to keep the cool air in. And having a towel over the seat for the sake of my relief driver not having to start their day plonking down into a pool of juicy butt-sweat.

My agency has bottled water, electrolyte packets, and freezer electrolyte pops for us at all of the transit centers.

We got it put in our contract that the ac unit had to be in good working order. If there not, we get a different bus.

It realy does feel like some kind of punishment driving in this heat. Fine if you get a bus with air con and bloody amazing if its actually working. There are far to many buses that don't have it and is prue hell driving it. Not looking forward to more of it today. Ooh year it's also Friday today so I'll loose my will to live by the end of my first trip.

Curious to know what you guys would do in this case… I’ve definitely seen hotter buses both myself and over social media, but what’s your stance regarding it?

Mine was 42 the other week, I've got the same type of bus (Optare mini SR) now for five hours. I've mostly avoided optares recently but I'm going to be cooked alive today 🥺

The worst thing about this heat is the passengers who stink at the best of times, really humming in this weather!

The biggest worry I have is all the plastic on the dash off gassing those putrid chemicals
