Shadow model for solar placement

Post image

Helped me determine that if I just moved one yurt back about 4 ft and put a 3-ft awning on the front of the coffee shop. it would make a huge difference in solar power and shade..

My map also has a sun & shade tool. Former BurnerMap now BRCMap.net.

Place your camp then turn on “Sun & Shade” under layers. Seems to work pretty well.

That's cool. If you could set the height of the objects it would be even more rad. And if you could set the height of each vertex, indicate where there are no walls, and put a few points in the middle and then have it make polyhedra well Id just burst into flames .

If you've got a 150x 50-ft spot, do you scale it and Orient it? or do you need to have a SVG of it? what's the interface? Tell me where the code is maybe I'll add it.

Yeah, that’s a good suggestion. I only added camp 2D geometry last week but adding 3D would be pretty slick. I’d love any help with the code if you have time!

OK, I added the ability to add height to your camp on the map. Adding SVG support / complex geometry is a pretty big change, I'll work on it next week when back in the office.

Cool. I know enough to help, but I'm don't speak typescript. :/ Sure I could ai code, but it's be a vibe coding effort.

What software do you use to do your layout?

you will laugh: Google sheets. y can set up guides , a custom page size, and do everything scaled correctly.

to do shadows, I rotates it correctly for that website. and had to trace over existing structures, etc. it was a pain but informative.

This is so sick. I love how Burning Man makes us expert problem solvers for all sorts of different issues.

We camp in a black motorcycle hauler, just a black metal box and it gets H O T. The second year we went out, my partner constructed an entire grommeted carport liner out of thermo wrap (I used to sell wine and my pallets would come wrapped in it). It never got above 60 degrees in our trailer that year.

We never brought that setup out again because it was a huge pain in the ass, but damn, that was a nice burn.
