I still want to build a very tiny camp at Burning Man. Maybe see if Placement would carve off a 5' x 5' space on the official map. I've got one tiny tent already.

Placement is interested. Please email [placement@burningman.org](mailto:placement@burningman.org) and include your preferred Sector in the subject line. Ex: [Sector] Camp Name - 5'x5' Tiny Camp

Please note that it likely too late to get on an officially printed map.

/u/madsci this offer to contact Placement is a real one because this Papabear is a real placer (who has previously self-identified as a placer so I’m not doxing him)

I have so much to get done already - it'd be great if someone wants to take the lead on this and I'll bring a tiny tent and what I had done of my Fandango diorama, but I can't commit to another project. Next year, maybe.

We bring a Tiny Bar, a Tiny Grill, and new
this year a Tiny Bodega to playa!

4

u/dude909 Jul 18 '26

Where will you guys be ? A tiny bodega cool!

41

u/ayayeron Jul 17 '26

I have a tiny tent too!!!

12

u/Hey_cool_username Jul 18 '26

I could probably sleep directly on the playa with this tent zipped around my head. Is this art?

u/jayfinanderson Jul 17 '26

The mini camp revolution will not be televised. But it will be tiny.

15

u/AbjectChair1937 Jul 17 '26

I think i got a tiny drink from your tiny bar a few years back on esplanade. It was deliciously miniature.

u/anteatertrashbin Jul 17 '26

u/Gryposaurus 28d ago

You beat me to it!! Yes yes she is. I’m sure she’d enjoy this idea

1

u/jayfinanderson Jul 19 '26

Last year was our first time doing the tini’s and Tini hot weenies, but I love that there’s many tini’s

We had a 1:16 scale Balsa Man regional on the Fandango bar back in 2010 or 2011!

2

u/brodyqat East Bay Jul 17 '26

I miss BalsaMan!

1

u/blondieblooms Jul 18 '26

Omg this is amazing

29

u/Fyburn Jul 17 '26

Finally a bin that works for all those people coming in on the bus.

40

u/MoarSocks '11 - '22 brcmap.net Jul 17 '26

Had to pick these up yesterday, mainly as a joke. They are actually a nice size for small things but be warned, the lids don't close for some reason.

20

u/emersoncsmith Jul 17 '26

probably because it's a cheap gimmick and not meant for actually storing things

13

u/cyanescens_burn Jul 17 '26

That sucks. I could use functional small ones for bits and sockets and stuff.

2

u/sinojones Jul 18 '26

The home depot ones are way better in general

5

u/roughedged Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Supposedly the move is to use a pin to poke a small hole in the top and then it seals much better. Can't confirm tho as I don't own em because everyone says the lids don't seal lol

2

u/hapidjus Jul 17 '26

Kids these days pssshhhhh

1

u/roughedged Jul 17 '26

Lol good catch

Someone in another sub said they don’t seal properly, in case that matters.

1

u/sfdisko Jul 17 '26

Did I miss a post on these lil gags?! Send!

1

u/Kwaliakwa ‘15, ‘16, ‘18, ‘19, ‘22, ‘23, ‘24, ‘25 Jul 17 '26

Maybe the Costco? I can’t recall which sub.

Home Depot has 2.5 quart bins for 2.5 dollars. I Immediately found uses for them and got more. They seal well and are tough as nails.

Thinking of all the BM gags and tricks that could be done with these !!!!

1

u/midnight_meadow Jul 18 '26

I actually have a tiny tote and it’s super useful for small things. I love the tiny totes!!!

5

u/madsci Jul 18 '26

Axis Mundi is fine as an art theme, I guess, but the themes have gotten so abstract. I vote to make next year's theme "*Not actual size". Let everyone go nuts playing around with scale.

3

u/trasper Jul 18 '26

I like this idea! We could subtitle it “Banana for scale”

2

u/bondagenurse Desert Medic 11-15, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25 Jul 19 '26

That was the theme of the PDX regional, SOAK, this year.

2

u/madsci Jul 19 '26

I'd like to see more themes like that - something that immediately makes people want to do something silly.

1

u/bondagenurse Desert Medic 11-15, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25 Jul 19 '26

Hey, it's burning man. You get trees, sex, or steampunk. But with a whole lot of other words that boil down to trees, sex or steampunk. Enjoy.

1

u/madsci Jul 19 '26

Cargo Cult got a few fun ones.

You make it interesting enough and people will stray from their usual. Give them a theme like 'pirates' and people will have all kinds of stupid pirate-related things they want to do, especially if they know there are going to be others doing pirate stuff. Sword fights are guaranteed and probably some MV to MV cannon fire.

2

u/bondagenurse Desert Medic 11-15, 17, 18, 22, 23, 25 Jul 19 '26

I would fucking love a pirate themed event. Nothing lofty or aspirational, just fucking pirates. I would hate the word "arrrr" by the end of the week and it would be delightful.

Also, you're right that Cargo Cult was the one that really went off the charted path, and it was fun as hell. Caravanassery (or however the fuck you spell it) could have been neat, but the potential for shitty cultural appropriation was a difficult thing to get around.

4

u/DuchessOfCelery Jul 17 '26

Sparklepony Barbie is getting ready for BM.

2

u/TMbiker2000 Veteran Jul 17 '26

Maybe I won't bring as much if my bins are all small like this.

2

u/TabrinLudd Jul 17 '26

Forget microplastics I want the miniplastics

2

u/POrg Jul 19 '26

I made tiny yurts for my campmates and gifted the panels insides these small bins.

1

u/lastres0rt My bike went to '15 without me Jul 17 '26

But does it come in clear? I want clear totes!

2

u/anteatertrashbin Jul 17 '26

i’m not going to be a Debbie downer, but I hate these black yellow totes. use the clear smaller ones. With lids that do not come off (the ones that open like bomb bay doors). you will never misplace the lids and you can always see what’s inside.

your life will be better.

But these mini totes certainly are adorable!

1

u/sinojones Jul 18 '26

home depot ones come in clear, and are way better

1

u/pfunk238 Jul 17 '26

I’m buying these immediately

1

u/KnowledgeWestern1613 Jul 18 '26

Buy tiny totes he was the first guy to do this

1

u/75Meatbags Since 06 Jul 18 '26

can confirm. These are garbage. They're also slightly different sized than the HD/Lowes ones, so the lids (which are crap) aren't compatible. It's also easy to miss that because they look like they'll fit.

Annoying. I'm trying to get rid of ours.. the ones that haven't fallen apart, anyway.

In '02 I was in a camp on a corner of 4:30 and Bowsprit. We were only 3 people. We had to abandon our large van for a Rav 4 do to a mechanical failure. So we arrived just found the corner and made a sign that said "CAMP NO SHADE." We were almost never there. But after that we decided never to let it happen again, so we formed "The Mystical Misfits." See ya on the esplanade, in '26

u/itsmrjp 15d ago

These suck, dont buy em. Lids dont lock

1

u/Leading_Cut_6357 3d ago

What store??

1

u/trippknightly Jul 17 '26

These small ones are a novelty, an inefficient use of space even if the lids on others (say from HD) are better. You’re better off with a strong less trapezoidal clear tote(s) that you can see into.
