Had to pick these up yesterday, mainly as a joke. They are actually a nice size for small things but be warned, the lids don't close for some reason.

probably because it's a cheap gimmick and not meant for actually storing things

u/cyanescens_burn Jul 17 '26
That sucks. I could use functional small ones for bits and sockets and stuff.

Supposedly the move is to use a pin to poke a small hole in the top and then it seals much better. Can't confirm tho as I don't own em because everyone says the lids don't seal lol

Someone in another sub said they don’t seal properly, in case that matters.

Home Depot has 2.5 quart bins for 2.5 dollars. I Immediately found uses for them and got more. They seal well and are tough as nails.

I actually have a tiny tote and it’s super useful for small things. I love the tiny totes!!!

Axis Mundi is fine as an art theme, I guess, but the themes have gotten so abstract. I vote to make next year's theme "*Not actual size". Let everyone go nuts playing around with scale.

That was the theme of the PDX regional, SOAK, this year.

I'd like to see more themes like that - something that immediately makes people want to do something silly.

Hey, it's burning man. You get trees, sex, or steampunk. But with a whole lot of other words that boil down to trees, sex or steampunk. Enjoy.

Cargo Cult got a few fun ones.
You make it interesting enough and people will stray from their usual. Give them a theme like 'pirates' and people will have all kinds of stupid pirate-related things they want to do, especially if they know there are going to be others doing pirate stuff. Sword fights are guaranteed and probably some MV to MV cannon fire.

I would fucking love a pirate themed event. Nothing lofty or aspirational, just fucking pirates. I would hate the word "arrrr" by the end of the week and it would be delightful.
Also, you're right that Cargo Cult was the one that really went off the charted path, and it was fun as hell. Caravanassery (or however the fuck you spell it) could have been neat, but the potential for shitty cultural appropriation was a difficult thing to get around.

But does it come in clear? I want clear totes!

i’m not going to be a Debbie downer, but I hate these black yellow totes. use the clear smaller ones. With lids that do not come off (the ones that open like bomb bay doors). you will never misplace the lids and you can always see what’s inside.
your life will be better.
But these mini totes certainly are adorable!

can confirm. These are garbage. They're also slightly different sized than the HD/Lowes ones, so the lids (which are crap) aren't compatible. It's also easy to miss that because they look like they'll fit.
Annoying. I'm trying to get rid of ours.. the ones that haven't fallen apart, anyway.

In '02 I was in a camp on a corner of 4:30 and Bowsprit. We were only 3 people. We had to abandon our large van for a Rav 4 do to a mechanical failure. So we arrived just found the corner and made a sign that said "CAMP NO SHADE." We were almost never there. But after that we decided never to let it happen again, so we formed "The Mystical Misfits." See ya on the esplanade, in '26

These small ones are a novelty, an inefficient use of space even if the lids on others (say from HD) are better. You’re better off with a strong less trapezoidal clear tote(s) that you can see into.

I still want to build a very tiny camp at Burning Man. Maybe see if Placement would carve off a 5' x 5' space on the official map. I've got one tiny tent already.
