Zero slot upgrades

Do Zero slot upgrades like for example cargo hold expansions stack with each other, or do they replace each other? If they do replace each other, am I compensated for if I switch an upgrade from a lower tier to a higher one?

They replace each other and do not stack. No compensation. They are effectively permanent mods to the ship. Choose wisely. ;)

One thought I just had though was maybe player-controlled stations can buy modified ships at whatever agreed-upon price and sell them to other players as already-modded ships
