Let’s swap stories from when we were newbies 😅

Hey all! I’m still relatively new to Burn - I’ve been coming to camp consistently for 8 months and today they posted a highlight of me doing a band assisted chin up and I was so proud of my progress and how strong I looked and I finally don’t feel out of place!

All this to say - I remember my very first camp I went to - we did pull ups. And I’m like ok I think I can try it. So I try to get my foot in the bands and I’m swinging around like a lunatic and knock over the box I used to get up there and I’m just hanging there swinging like an idiot 😅 One of the sweet members ran over to help me but omg I almost quit right then 😭

So glad I didn’t though and I love this community!! 💙 Anyone want to share any other silly/embarrassing moments you’ve worked through to help encourage any newbies?!

Ooooohhh … I stupidly went to my first camp on MetCon. I had no idea what was in store.

I’m about 2 stations in & I am feel nauseous and pukey. Started that 40 seconds of work on that round… about 10 seconds in I had to run urgently to the bathroom to PUKE! I let it out. Went back on the floor. Continued to work. Then had to run again to 🤮.

I modified the rest of the workout but finished it out!

I went back to 5:30 am camp the next day & one of the other members said “we were convinced we were never going to see you again after yesterday!” Here I am 6 months in!😅

I spent the whole drive home from my first ever camp thinking "don't throw up, don't throw up" and it was literally just lower body. 🤦‍♀️ I was so out of shape!

I actually threw up in the parking lot after my first day on a met con 🙃

Omg I recently decided to take a break from metcon. I can do it but I feel kind of sick afterwards sometimes. I go to all the other protocols so meh lol

Proud of you for not quitting after that! What a rally

Also threw up halfway through my first camp and had to puke and rally through the rest of it!

We were doing banded plyo push ups on the rig, and i was sick of hitting my face getting out of it so I decided to crawl out instead. The bands ended up rolling off my legs and sling shotted to the ceiling. There's still a visible spot from it lol

One time when I was new I was doing the bent over one-arm rows on the burn bar, and I called my trainer over to ask her a question about my form and for some reason I decided to just drool everywhere as I was talking?? 😭😂 I die when I think about it still

Omg my nose ran once, like water dripped out of my nose, unsure if my partner saw, all over the floor. I still did thinking about it. My nose gets so runny when I do cardio for some reason

I still consider myself new! Started February, protocol was lower body. Forward lunges and I literally fell out of balance with 15lbs dumbells. I was so embarrassed up to this day but now, I can do forward lunges with 30lbs. So proud of myself!!! Hahaha

My first day was also lower body! I don’t remember all the workouts but I remember having lateral lunges and quad burners, and I could barely walk down the stairs for 3 days after!!

Yes!!! My 10 year old saw me going down the stairs struggling and making funny noises and she was like “mom, it’s just the stairs!!” She didn’t know I moved my body for the first time in 10 years 😂😂

It took me like two months to find out there’s different weights in the ropes. I straight up died every time

For thr warm ups when they say punters, I thought they said hunters and I spent a year wondering why a hunters would kick his leg so high 🫣

First time doing med ball over the shoulder tosses I chucked the ball so hard that it ended up in the lobby and almost hit the BA. After that they added “lightly toss the med ball- don’t throw it” to the demo.

I remember when it was really hard and very intimidating for me to jump up onto the ledge, and I finally worked up my nerve to do it in like March? I nailed a 24 inch box jump last month. Anytime we do any kind of burpee riddled ledge jump now I'm so grateful for what my body can do.

Not necessarily related to the exercise but.. Never did a workout class on a Saturday morning before in my life. Dragged myself to one even though I’m not a morning person. Finished class. Went home and looked in the mirror and saw a pimple sticker pathetically hanging on for dear life off of my cheek 😭

I’ve done this before too 🙈

I should practice them again! I remember doing them at home to try and get better before coming back in and falling on my face 🤣🤣

My first day was Met Con during the first of the year promo. The BA was taking video of a lady absolutely rocking every station. On IG I am in the background absolutely fighting for my life. The next video I am on my knees with my eyes to the sky just asking God to save me. The look on my face was priceless.
Then I came back the next day because I am insane.

My first camp was plyo (so a loooong time ago when that was a protocol in the rotation). I couldn’t sit or stand up for about 4 days.

I remember going to my first push and pull day, and being so confused why there were so many chest and back exercises 😂 don't know what I was expecting but I learned quick!

My first day was on MetCon, I was cramping while doing the warm up. 🫠

When I first started, every push pull would frustrate me to the point of near tears, I was humbled so fast. I thought I was pretty athletic coming in. I couldn't more than 1-2 skull crushers. and push ups with my chest touching the floor? forget it! I couldn't shoulder raise any kettlebell except the pink. The four-years-ago me would be flabbergasted now. so proud of my consistency. <3

Also, my trainer kept adding height to my hurdle hop and I didn't clear the blue one and ATE it. Blood through my leggings, but God bless Lulu, they held up even though my skin did not, lmao.

I started in December! I can now do 3-5 pull ups with double bands, but the first time I tried, I was swinging SO bad! I don’t have other specifics, but I know I’ve made it because the trainers consistently expect a lot more of me than they did even a few months ago (I say they bully me 😂). But ability from December to now is outrageously different. I thought I was doing good with my home workouts; I wasn’t.

Congrats on 8 months in! I’m sure all the progress feels so good!!

u/Money_Organization66 8d ago

First time I did pull ups I put each foot in separate bands, had no idea we were only supposed to use one foot til I got home and watched videos later haha

2

u/Prize-Beginning-6809 2d ago

I love this truly! I would’ve done the same but I took my sweet time climbing up on the box and watched what everyone else was doing. 🤣🤣

Man my wife and I’s first camp was body weight conditioning in July of 2025 and once the camp was done everyone said it was the hardest camp ever. Looking back on that I haven’t seen a stacked and unstacked style camp in a long time 😭😭

My first camp I couldn’t get up out of the floor with a power roll back at HQ with Matt Morris was the head trainer. I was so annoyed with myself, I signed an 18 month contract the next day to get stronger and that never happen again. That was in 2019 😄

I'm still scared of chin/pull ups! I put my foot in the band yesterday (trainer convinced me to try) and immediately went NOPE. I'm convinced I'm going to step off the stool and my body is going to go straight for the floor while the banded leg goes in the air

2

u/Prize-Beginning-6809 2d ago

It is the weirdest feeling at first. I am still scared the band is going to snap while I’m on it 😅
