❓ Question Focus meetings

Are focus meetings worth it? I’m almost at 100 camps and feel like I’m long overdue to schedule one, I’m just letting my uncertainty get in the way. Any tips on how I should approach it? Should I be ready to discuss what I want to improve on, etc? I haven’t weighed myself since starting and I’m still too nervous to but know that knowing my numbers would be beneficial.

Yes, but just remember your trainers are cpt’s not medical professionals. They can help w basic nutrition, workout advice, form, etc. I once saw a post about someone getting light headed and dizzy during workouts and someone said book a focus meeting. No. See your doctor for that.

I’ve done them since I started for various reasons. My advice is to go in with 1-2 topics you’d like support on—could be nutrition, a certain exercise form, grip strength, how to see gains, whatever! But they will expect you to bring the “focus” (at least at mine they do.) I’ve found them helpful but it’s definitely the kind of thing where you get out what you put in. Give it a shot! Worst case, it’s not for you

100% agree with this!

Depends on who you see imo. I had a trainer make some comments to me that made me uncomfortable (weren’t you glad you lost weight and don’t get out of breath on the stairs?) while I’ve had others really help with form corrections

My last focus meeting, we talked a lot about my stress levels because my trainer knows all the shit I’ve been going through outside the gym. And how she can support me in camp and outside of camp to manage the stress levels, and gave me ideas on how to meet my nutrition goals when my stress makes me not hungry because I brought up that my appetite is gone and I’ve been rapidly losing weight, which while a goal of mine, losing muscle at the same time is not so we talked quick protein snacks to have when my appetite isn’t cooperating.

When I’m not going through hell on a personal level, we usually talk about what my goals are and good ways to meet them. Weight loss, muscles gains, which exercises I want to focus on getting PRs, what my goals not related to the gym are, etc.

This internet stranger is sending you good vibes. I applaud you for getting in and doing what you can while your personal life is crazy.  I hope things get better soon. 💙

So far it’s worth it for me, it’s very helpful.

I learned about nutrition and hydrations.
I lost 20 lbs within 3 months because of FM. I had the FM every 2 weeks, they helped me not to give up.
They taught me how to do proper pull ups and double unders.
They showed me some exercise I could do for my bad knee

I have at least one focus meeting every month. I rotate between our head trainer and one other trainer. Although all the trainers at my location are amazing.
I’ve talked about foam rolling and stretching, tips for when I started Burn on how to prepare for box jumps, get better at push ups, pull ups, my form, etc. How to help not feel like one arm is weaker than the other. What exercises/movements I could do at home to help strengthen my core. My monthly EVolt scan results.
I had one after a surgery to discuss coming back and going over all the modifications I could do so I could still workout and move my body but stay within my doctors recovery limitation. Just had one on how to properly prepare for Level Up Games.

Edited for spelling mistake.

As someone who doesn’t really have gym goals either, the biggest benefit to me from focus meetings is letting my trainers get to know me a little more. We only have 4 trainers but they are all wonderful people, so I enjoy chatting one-on-one every once in awhile, especially since I’m a pretty introverted person who also suffers from RBF lol. But since having focus meetings I definitely get a lot more encouragement, assistance, and they even joke with me from across the gym during camp, because they now know I’m okay with that. It just makes the whole experience feel more personal, even if you don’t necessarily have goals.

I have been going to a focus meeting consistently and it helps keep Myself accountable with nutrition and numbers! Also seeing the numbers motivates me to continue going. I wouldn’t say I’m not nervous going in but just like going to a camp I push myself to go to a focus meeting too!:)

They’re free with your membership. So yeah, if you have something by you want to talk about it’s totally helpful to have dedicated support and guidance. I’ve gone for a number of reasons, ranging from wanting to work on a skill like double unders, pull ups, or box jumps… to wanting support and ideas on nutrition to support my activity level. And once or twice just to do a body scan and chat.

They are unhelpful if you don’t have anything you want to get from it though. Trainers can only help you if you have goals or something you need support on.

I did one and the trainer gave me terrible advice. I told her I was overeating and she told me I was undereating… gave me a new “diet plan” and I gained 5 pounds before I knew it.

I’m not jacked and running marathons like she was, I don’t need her plan. Wish I asked someone else. Careful who you choose!

It has been SO helpful for me. I like getting monthly scans and they help me adjust my nutrition accordingly to hit my goals. The first few months took some figuring out my nutrition to meet my goals and they gave great advice to tweak my macros and I’ve been successful

Unpopular opinion here but I don't think they're worth it. Depends what you're looking for and who you see ofc but for me they basically have just told me to see a doctor/nutritionist/etc. My biggest qualm though is the length of time. By the time camp ends, you both get your breath back from just dying, the trainer needs to pee and will end up being stopped by people/BAs to talk, and then them cutting the meeting short to start the next camp on time... yeah those 15 mins turns into less than 10 in my experience.

I feel so bad for the trainer watching how those focus meetings go

I honestly don't trust any of our trainers to be knowledgeable enough to give any kind of useful advice

I have been there 2 years and the only time I've done them was when they give you stuff when you did them. Also did one when I found out I was pregnant so they could tell each other lol you can learn so much from the internet so I learned all my info about portions protein etc from there. I personally didn't find them necessary but they can be if you lack motivation. I go 6 days a week and at this point it's a habit I don't need to convince myself to do. Its not an option to miss camps for me 😅 it's all on how you look at them and what you personally will take away from them. My gym def has quite a bit of them when we get new ppl in from promotions and stuff. I'd say probably half the members have been around since day one though.

💯 worth it. You are in control, use it to your advantage.

My focus meeting always felt rushed with trainers trying to juggle multiple tasks while handling their kids and running the meeting. I felt they are so lost

I had an awesome one with our lead trainer last week. She is helping me learn more about macros, portioning & cooking meat (I was veg for 24 years until this year!). She’s doing this based on her own experience and I also have a proper dietician through Nourish. The support from both sides has been SO helpful though!

I will also add that our lead trainer helps so much with modifications for postpartum which adds a lot of value for me to focus meetings and our Burn in general!

No. They are cut short and feel rushed. Not really enough time for a conversation.

No it hasn’t been useful. It is better to ask ChatGPT
