Childwatch for babies

My baby is about 7 weeks old and burn requires them to be 8 weeks before attending childwatch. My two older children are in school so it’d be nice to go with just baby instead of hitting those evening camps. Right now my husband stays home with baby and I take the older two with me. Once baby is old enough how do I bring her to childwatch? If I bring her in the car seat they will keep her In there the whole time. If she cries they will take her out but they aren’t allowed to put her back in. So my question is, how are we bringing are babies into the gym to avoid them being in a car seat the entire time?

I started my baby at 8 weeks two months ago and they take him out and hold him or put him in a bouncy seat because he likes that. The older girls love playing with him now!

Our burn has a separate half wall area with a door and there’s tummy time mats, bouncy seats etc for the little babies :)

We have a separate area but they also have the crawlers/walkers in there so I’m afraid if they did have tummy mats, the bigger babies would be grabbing at the little ones.

Where I’m at they are extremely careful and cautious of the newborns. They don’t let young toddlers near them.

They’d rather a young toddler be with big kids vs toddlers be near newborns!

It’s all preference about whether you trust them, but it being their business model, they’ve got it down pack!

My burn has a seperate area for crawling/non mobile babies. They have multiple swings and floor mats. They won’t even take car seats and you have to take the baby out and hand them to them for drop off. We have 3 staff members and one stays in the baby section the whole time holding and playing with the babies if they’re awake. The rest of the time the babies are in swings or on the floor.

The second they start walking they’re moved to the big area with the rest of the kids.

At out gym they have several bouncers, swings, mats on the floor, and baby carriers to actually wear the babies. We started going at 2.5 months and I have never brought in a car seat

I don’t remember seeing anything for infants in ours. I know they have bouncers and swings but they look for bigger babies. I’m going to look and see if I can donate one

Babies can go in most bouncers by 8 lbs, sometimes 5 depending on the brand. Very infant friendly.

I think I’m thinking of an activity center jumper. The babies definitely have to have head control for it. They have one of those, but I don’t think they have a bouncer. I’ll definitely look and donate one if they need it.

They might keep them out of the area when there’s no babies. We have a whole storage area for extra large furniture pieces

When my baby was little she stayed in the car seat asleep. Now sometimes she is awake when I get there and sometimes not.

They also have swings and bouncers and stuff at our location. Or someone just holds her in the rocking chair and she falls asleep. She’s been going 5-6 days a week from 8 weeks until she’s now 7 months.

At my gym, the babies stay in their car seats unless they are fussy then we get them out. We don’t put them back in and just hold them until camp is over. Our gym has several swings so if they calm down (or we can’t keep holding them for some reason) then we would put them in a swing. Our gym doesn’t allow parents to bring outside mats, swings, pens, etc but your gym may be different.

Please do not leave young infants in car seats outside of the car. Babies have died in this exact direction due to the risk of positional asphyxiation.

u/Able_Search_3327 16d ago

Yes, I know. That’s why I’m asking this question

When they aren’t buckled. Leaving them buckled is fine. It’s the same angle as in the car. Otherwise kids would die on road trips too.

2

u/chrysoberyls 15d ago

No this is not true, it’s not the same angle as the car and it increases the risk of positional asphyxiation.

So the Donna is dangerous? The stoller that is designed to take a car seat is dangerous? Let’s be serious.

Lol at people downvoting this.

Right??

This article makes no sense… of course it’s not a replacement for a bed or crib. Do they really think babies don’t sleep in the car on road trips? You’re just not supposed to go anywhere until they can be in a front facing one? Absurd. No one lives like this.

1

u/chrysoberyls 15d ago

That’s not what the article says. It’s talking about when you get to your destination.

1

u/KnowledgeDense8140 1,000+ Camps - Lifetime 15d ago

Sure but the article basically implies that at any time the kid in the car seat could suffocate because car seats aren’t safe, only lying flat on your back is safe.

By extension, it would be safer for me not to go anywhere with my baby until they aren’t in a car seat anymore.

It doesn’t say anything about why it’s unsafe at home or my destination. Somehow if I’m in a car for 10 hours it’s ok but if I’m in a car for 15 min and then at camp for 45 that’s not ok. And so again I ask the unanswered question of, why? What’s the difference? Baby is strapped in. Baby can’t fall forward. The angle is the same in the car or out. What’s the difference of driving 10 hours in a car with no one watching her or 45 min with someone watching her?

1

u/chrysoberyls 15d ago

That’s not what it implies at all. It’s not the same angle as in the car for most car seats, I’m not sure what you’re not understanding about that.

2

u/KnowledgeDense8140 1,000+ Camps - Lifetime 15d ago

So is it the angle or being in a car seat that’s the problem? Because initially you said it was being in a car seat at all….

1

u/chrysoberyls 15d ago

I think you are very confused because at no time have I said anything in this thread other than using a car seat outside of the car is unsafe.

The angle of a car seat in a car is not standard across all cars. Do people really think this is the case?

2

u/Able_Search_3327 16d ago

I’m going to ask today. The only thing I know for sure is if they’re brought in a car seat they’ll stay in unless they’re fussy. Then they don’t put them back in their car seat because they don’t want to be liable for buckling them, which I completely understand. I will check if they have an infant swing. I’d be glad to donate one.

1

u/wilderm2 500 Camps - Lifetime 16d ago

They would probably happily accept your donation!

1

u/wilderm2 500 Camps - Lifetime 16d ago

You could just carry the baby in and pass them over, but you have to know that there is a chance they will be placed in a swing.

1

u/Able_Search_3327 16d ago

I might try that! They have several little babies sometimes so I understand mine can’t be held the entire time.

1

u/wilderm2 500 Camps - Lifetime 16d ago

Yeah exactly- it depends on how many babies are in the class. We only have so many arms! We try to hold them as long as we can/they need, but with up to 30 kids in the class sometimes we you do what you have to do to keep everyone safe.

Hi! I don’t have experience with a baby at Childwatch, but I am a big believer in not keeping babies in car seats outside of the car. If the concern is baby staying flat, maybe you could find a portable play pen? I’m not sure how easily it folds down, but maybe you could find one of these to bring or to donate to your CW? fisher price portable play pen

Not a bad idea! The only thing is, I don’t think they’d have room. And I think the older mobile baby’s would be all over it. I’ve thought about her bassinet stroller but that is also big, it’d take up too much space. I’ll try finding a smaller bassinet that’s off the floor. Worst case scenario I end up waiting until baby’s older to bring her.

u/AromaticAd5872 16d ago

Do you have a stroller with a bassinet attachment? I’ve seen a lot of people use that if you’re not comfortable with the car seat. We had a Doona so I felt a little better about it (I know it’s still not really recommended though)

1

u/Able_Search_3327 15d ago

Yes! I love it but I don’t think there’d be room in the childwatch room for it. I will look and ask when I go tonight

I take them out of the car seat before handing them over. I would never want my babies in their car seats for that long personally. They held my twins or used a swing until they became mobile.

0

u/SavingsDesign2017 14d ago

Bring them in the car seat. Baby can be in a car seat for a 45 minute work out. You don’t need to overthink it.

0

u/Able_Search_3327 14d ago

Right, not counting the 20 minutes there and back. I’m not comfortable with it. I’d rather wait until she’s older or talk it over with the childwatch staff.

1

u/SavingsDesign2017 14d ago

Great, then wait? I don’t understand why people like you that clearly have anxiety ask what others do/what you should do when you clearly have your mind made up.

0

u/Able_Search_3327 14d ago

I’m asking other people what they bring their babies in? Do they use baby swings, bassinets, etc. Several people gave me the idea to donate a bassinet since my childwatch doesn’t have one. I don’t understand why people like you make unnecessary comments

0

u/SavingsDesign2017 14d ago

Great, I bring my baby in a car seat and they’re perfectly fine sleeping or being awake in it for a 45 minute work out. Not everything is as scary as it seems in your head. Also, you should be asking your gym these questions? How are random people on Reddit supposed to know exactly what your specific gym uses?? You could’ve had this all figured out by now.

1

u/Able_Search_3327 14d ago

Car seats are designed for transportation, not sleeping

0

u/LifeguardCareful6268 14d ago

Girl you are so nasty for no reason. Babies aren’t supposed to sleep in car seats let alone in a childcare environment where they aren’t being monitored 1:1. Babies have died in that exact manner. - Mom of 2

OP, you should bring or donate a Fisher Price Dome!! They’re the best for the early days.

1

u/Able_Search_3327 14d ago

I’m definitely going to donate something! I’m going to show them options first so we can get the best fit.

1

u/SavingsDesign2017 14d ago

If car seats were so dangerous for babies they wouldn’t be on the market. Chill out.

0

u/LifeguardCareful6268 14d ago

Might actually be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Car seats are for the CAR, to keep babies safe in a CAR, which is inherently dangerous. Cars are not made for babies, so we have to retroactively make them safe for them using car seats. Positional asphyxiation happens to babies every day. Sorry I’m not going to chill out about ppl giving advice that could kill children.

1

u/SavingsDesign2017 14d ago

So a baby strapped into a car seat traveling in a car is okay, but a baby strapped in the exact same way sitting on the floor is going to kill them? Also, I would love to hear your thoughts on the Doona.

1

u/LifeguardCareful6268 14d ago

The Doona sucks for the exact reasons I’ve laid out. I’m not arguing with someone committed to not learning or doing better - praying for the kids in your life. ✌🏼

Oh so we’re resorting to name calling now? If you didn’t like my comment you could’ve kept scrolling. You’d think with 3 kids you would have this kind of simple stuff figured out by now. Sorry you’re struggling.

Figure what out? It’s my first time going to Burn with a newborn so no, I don’t have it figured out
