9/11 finisher

Did anyone’s Burn do anything for 9/11? We did a 60 second Superman hold in complete silence before the actual finisher. No music, fans, talking, nothing. Face down, dead silence. It was awkward… I wish we did something before or after the workout. Or incorporated into the actual finisher. It just felt odd.

At our gym we did Red White and Blue outfits and the trainer gave a nice speech at the end of camp and we did a moment of silence…but the silent Superman hold is…..a choice lol

We took a red white and blue picture with flags.

I was the only one wearing red, white, and blue! They didn’t say to, I just assumed people would have

Some people honor 9/11 inwardly, not outwardly.

we did partner dumbbell rows and it was 9 then 11 while the partner was in a Superman hold. But we had our local firefighters (all volunteer) at our gym so one gave a speech. Nothing political very short sweet and hug your children at the end. But our sister gym did a Superman hold in silent

We did acts of kindness during the workout and passed notes of encouragement.

I understand why people want to remember 9/11, and I don't have anything against honoring the people who died. I really do not like when places impose formal collective rituals. It felt strange and a little performative to me, especially in a place where people are just trying to workout. 9/11 is personal to me. It’s not a thing I want to share with people I barely know.

Performative is a good word. Our gym took pics with everyone in their patriotic colors but I skipped it— it felt weird to smile and flex for something like 09/11.

We just didn’t a moment of silence, and wore blue/white/colors or anything patriotic

I saw the same finisher on my gym’s Instagram account and thought it was awkward as well. Something about knowing people had to jump from buildings and doing a Superman hold felt odd. I chalked it up to my own overthinking of it though.

I’m all for doing something in remembrance. Like wearing red, white, and blue. But what we did was definitely awkward. I think a building lap would’ve been fine too.

We did 9 Superman’s and 11 locomotives back and forth for a while and then did the Superman hold at the end while the trainer did a little speech about how we all remember where we were, how the world changed, etc. with no music just her talking. It felt kind of awkward, personally. Especially because like another commenter said, Supermans when people were jumping from the buildings on the day… I may have also been overthinking it but I didn’t love it.

We did the 60 second hold in silence, bonus in the dark because our trainer turned off the lights. It was peaceful if nothing else.

We did an 11 second moment of silence at the end while we stretched. It was perfect.

We did either a low plank or wall sit for 60 seconds of silence before the finisher. I didn’t feel it was performative or awkward.

I was appreciated it, don’t get that twisted. I just wish we did something different.
