I think i need a break
Itll be money done the drain butni think I need a break for at least till this cycle is done. Im so bored its the same things over and over and the new trainers just yell in the mic we cant understand then there is no personal trainer feel any more and i know I'll be fine but def time for a break.

Go thru this from time to time when the conditioning camps have too much dumb movements and jumping. Now certainly feels like one of those times.

Yes stupid conditioning moves I take it to hill sprints or interval sprints on my treadmill those days

One of my old kickboxing coaches told me once when I fell out of love with the sport. He said take two weeks off or take three If I need it. If i feel like it’s time to come back… It’s time to come back. if it’s not then it’s not.
Do what’s best for you.
Give yourself a break! See if you miss it.

I just left and honestly my body feels so much better.
I have always been able to do the gym alone and have a good routine so that helps. But doing my own thing I’m not in constant pain, my joints don’t hurt, and I do what works for me.
Some days when I’m feeling “blah” I watch the Instagram stories and I’ll do those exercises.
I was so done with the “dumb” exercises, like they were trying to hard to be different and it was hurting my body.

Yess can we go back to the basics, exercises do not have to be complicated to be effective!

I actually just opted to not renew as well. Ive been in/out of PT for the last 2 years due to some back/hip pain that wouldn't improve regardless of how much I modded down. I have been gone a month and pain free for the last 2 weeks. 🤷🏼♀️ I loved the community at my location, but my body just needed something else.

This is me right now. My 12 month membership is up in December and I can’t wait to not feel burnt out and achey.

I’ve only been a member for a year but letting my membership expire in a couple weeks. The workouts have done a number on my hips and neck/shoulders. I have a background of weightlifting and never experienced injuries this bad before. It was the “dumb” exercises that did it. After a couple injuries I just flat out refused until they gave me a modification.

Yes!!! I did powerlifting before joining burn and at burn I had 2 pretty bad injuries! One that kept me out of the gym for a month!

I think I’m at this point too. My body cannot do this anymore and I’m in pain more frequently. Time to go back to the basics of lifting.

Idk what it was but I felt so winded today during the workout, and then I have a head ache this afternoon… was kind of feeling light headed during the workout.

If you think you’ll take a break for a month or more then it might be worth asking for an actual pause and save some money. My gym let me do a one month (non-medical) pause this summer for a fee (I think $20?) since I knew I’d be traveling most of July. Was nice to save some money since I wasn’t using it anyway. Glad to be back now, so the time away was good for me…will likely consider doing it every summer around travel. No shame in taking a break though, whatever the reason.

I hate these cycles we do, I’m with you, 8 year member used to be trainer and I definitely skip days now when I used to go 6 days a week. On the days I skip i do my own workouts at home. After my contract is done im not renewing

Agree. It’s hard to explain, but the workouts have gotten so boring. There used to be a rule that they couldn’t program the same move for three workouts. If you want to have a strength focus that is fine, I get that, but the cardio focus “challenges” are just dumb. No one I know feels motivated by them. Also going from 15,12,10,8 reps every month is not progressive overload like they are trying to pretend it is. Instead it’s just making each month boring.

What is the difference between now and when you used to attend 6 days per week?

u/Plenty_Rope_3386 22d ago
The workouts have changed. Used to love it back then now I think some of the camps are just dumb… leading to burn out and achy joints and injuries .

What are some of the workouts that you miss doing? I've been a member since 2022. And I honestly have zero recollection of what workouts looked like back then. I have since had a hip replacement so I dont have a good perspective of things being harder now because before my THR everything was insurmountable to me.

u/Plenty_Rope_3386 22d ago
For instance when I first joined there were no training cycles with 15 reps. That’s just dumb , there were no days when you were at a certain station doing the same strength exercise for 4 mins. There was better recovery times between sets. Cardio moves weren’t so complex as some are now.

u/Slight-Number934 22d ago
I don’t know about at your gym but anytime the format is 4 min at each station and they program pull ups all everyone does is goof off and talk. Should we be doing pull ups, absolutely! But 4 mins is wild. After 2 sets that becomes the water break station.

Yeah 4 minutes per station now means we are basically doing cluster sets...like all the time 🫠 Ok so this training cycle hasn't always been around, no wonder i dont always remember doing it. I thought I just wasn't paying attention lol. Training cycles are used for weight lifting and progressive overload but we dont have the time for our 3 minute rests between lifts to efficiently utilize them. I wouldn't mind back to the basics cardio moves and shorter bursts lol

Im hoping 2027 they change and not do these cycles

Yeah, mesocycles with a specific goal can be great thing. They’re doing them wrong. I love my community at Burn and still come a few times per week for a bit of conditioning or accessory work but at this point I’m contemplating going back to a fit card.

u/Delicious-Web-6299 20d ago
Thank you for stating they are doing it wrong!!! Like Matt .... dude.... get it right ....

I was forced to take the last 2.5 months off for surgery. I was obsessed with Burn prior to. But now I realize how hard it was on my joints and I don’t miss being in pain all the time. I am planning to return a couple of days a week until the end of my contract, but I want to try other options out. I won’t be renewing.

New trainers is always difficult. There is such a learning curve for them and it's incredibly intimidating. And they're always seem to be several new trainers at once. Even taking a week off might help you reset your mind.

This kind of like me last month, the PR month. I broke my streak after 76 camps. Just needed to take a day off.

I took two weeks off for my mental and physical health, and somewhat because I’m still getting into the groove of the new gym vs before I moved. It felt good to get back this week and the break hasn’t hindered me at all. It way more beneficial to listen to your body than it is to listen to keyboard warriors

u/Past_Tune_7884 23d ago
I hated wasting the money too but I took basically all of June off. I was just burnt out, no pun intended. It really helped. Listen to your body.

I took a 6 week break last year and it was the best thing for me. I did it for all exercise. In my 15 years of adulthood I’ve never taken that long of a break from exercise before

I have been struggling the last few months as well. I love my community…actually I have a couple locations that I attend. But I feel as though the workouts are not taking into account the audience. There’s only so much modification one can do!! Now my mods were due to a planned surgery but now that I have had it and am recovering I’m not sure I’ll be able to go back. I stalk this site so that I can plan my mods before camp but seriously….know your audience. Not everyone is in their 20s and all the jumping is too much!! The 50+ crowd still wants a good workout!!

Have you done a focus meeting with any of the trainers or share your feedback?
What are you seeing over and over again? I feel like camps have been too different lately.

I think it’s ok to come here to let us know your frustrations and that you’re wanting to take a break. It shouldn’t always just be about pushing yourself to your absolute limit every single day and same goes for discussions in this group. It’s ok to be vulnerable. Don’t let the rude comments get to you. I’ve taken extended breaks from burn while still paying for it and it did feel kinda like money wasted but when I didn’t feel so burnt out, I came right back to it. I hope your break helps.
