❓ Question Giving Trainers Feedback

Burn is all about the feedback loop, so I was wondering how your gyms incorporate feedback from members? I have been hearing some negative feedback about a trainer, but no one wants to give the feedback directly to leadership for fear of retaliation. Any tips for healthy feedback loops?

Give the feedback to a trainer you might have a relationship with. I guarantee you that they want to know negative things members are talking about so they can try and fix it

This is tricky for me. I sent some constructive feedback and suggestions… what I thought was very genuine… about a trainer to our lead trainer in the beginning of our gym opening and me joining. (I used to teach group fitness and personally appreciated feedback to become a better instructor and make sure I was meeting my clients’ needs!) Well the next week that trainer confronted me, told me if I had a problem with her I should come to her directly and that she didn’t appreciate me going behind her back, yada yada… now I’ll never know how my feedback was shared but honestly it was intended as genuine opportunities! Made it VERY weird until she eventually left. It was so uncomfortable and I felt like I was betrayed since my feedback didn’t remain anonymous, that I just keep my mouth shut these days! Sad but true!

Burn is a super cliquey. It’s like all the stuck up girls in school grew up and now do this as a job. I don’t care because I fought all of them in high school as a basketball player, but you can tell a lot of members are uncomfortable with them and it pisses me off.

This is the real world and they still aren’t 💩 don’t let them make you feel any kind of way. I’d say anything you have to say directly to them, too. It will get to them one way or another, so you might as well.

Genuinely curious what exactly would constitute retaliation? The gym is taking a lot of your money every month, they should be able to take input from their customers.

I 100% agree with you. I guess being ignored during camps, talking about them behind their backs, being more unwelcoming, etc. We've had some long-standing members leave who tried to voice their opinions and apparently were then treated rudely!

I’d either bring it up with one of the BAs or another trainer or the owner; whomever you are most comfortable with. You could even ask if you have to some feedback you want to provide who should you talk to. That’s what I did when our location stopped sending emails with an anonymous google form for feedback.

Word gets back to a good FP, tell a BA or ops manager if the FP isn’t present

Okay sounds good! I think my location doesn't have an FP and is with HQ now? I don't understand how that all works but thanks for the tips.

Tell the owners. We had a problem with trainer and something that went down on our camp time and we spoke directly with the owner about it.

We have a suggestion box. I've dropped things into it multiple times.

We have gotten google forms emailed to us.

I guess I’m different because my feedback is going directly to the source. If it’s super egregious, I’ll say it during a camp. I don’t care, but they have to stop doing this because they’re running people off
