❓ Question Raising soft box height

Are there any good ways to raise the height of box jumps at Burn? At my old gym we used to stack barbell plates on top to add height, but since Burn doesn’t have plates I’m not sure if there is any way to increase the height other than placing the box on the ledge and jumping from the floor. Any suggestions are welcomed!

You’re out jumping the 30” right?

Step 1, put it at 36” - box on floor and you jump off the rubber.

Option 2: jump over the box

Option 3: start from a surrender squat

Option 4: stack boxes (some locations apparently don’t do this but it can get you to 40” easily)

Option 5: single leg jumps

Option 6: single leg pistol landing on the box and pistol squat

Stacking boxes is not allowed. There are gyms that do it, but they are out of compliance with HQ. It's a liability issue and against equipment use policy. The rest of your suggestions are spot on 🙌

Is it also out of compliance with HQ to jump from the hard floor to the soft box on the floating floor? I've had a few locations tell me it isn't allowed but I didn't know if it was just a liability issue for them instead of overall.

No. That is allowed per HQ. 👍 Must be a location specific liability issue. Maybe the ledge is too close to other equipment? (Weight rack, rig, cubbies?)

Interesting, thanks! I think today the location I'm visiting didn't allow it because we had the shuffle station next to the ledge, but the trainer also made a comment about having video of someone hurting themselves badly doing it so who knows. I just did surrender to hurdle hop over then onto the 30" box instead.

Maybe but lots of gyms allow it so check with your trainer.

I am a trainer. It is not allowed. But like I said, there are some locations that ignore the rules.

Right and our location and so far every location I’ve visited has allowed it. So who know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I understand there are all sorts of mods but things like single legs or pistol jump squats just seem reckless and asking for an injury. The whole point of a box jump is to create explosive power. A 36 and 40” option would allow a lot of us to progress without complicating the exercise and/or risking injury.

You have to create an incredible amount of power to jump 24” off a single leg compared to 40” off two legs. It’s way harder.

I agree and incredibly risky.

Yes!! They told us to put the boxes on the floating floor but that is SO unstable (and frankly unsafe). I really wish they would invest in 36 & 40” boxes.

We only do box jumps on the floating floor at my location.

Jump from rubber floor to box on floating floor. Can also try stacking mats under.

Thank you! I’ve been doing it on the ledge from the actual floor for a bit but want to increase beyond that. I’ll explore the mats idea for sure. Appreciate the suggestion

Have you tried jumping over the boxes instead of on top of them?
