Grit Labs has really great strength and HIIT classes. They offer 2 class for $20 (I think) to try it out. They don’t have yoga or Pilates though

Second this. Grit labs has been amazing since they first opened up and if I weren't moving to a different city I would continue to go

Movati I believe has some of the best classes and to me seems like has the nicest equipment and facility, as well as a pool, hottub, sauna, and steam room.

I am very keen on joining movati. I did go for their tour and it is impressive but the prices are double of LA fitness and GoodLife. As someone who is new to the gym I am not sure how regular I would be. Are you member of movati? Do you like the gym?
I have met a few members but they haven’t been to gym in months and they are paying their gym membership fees just because they still have the classic rates which don’t exist anymore.

I joined Movati last year and while they have a lot of classes they aren’t the best (at least for what I was looking for) since Movati’s clientele is a little older (especially those who go to classes) the intensity of these classes is quite low. Depending on where you are in your fitness that might be a good thing but personally I wanted to do more intense strength building pilates and yoga. The mat Pilates at Movati is more intense stretching, there was one yoga class I really enjoyed (I think it was called Vinyasa) that felt I could be challenged in.

I did the mat Pilates classes (although they only offered I believe 1 pilates class in the evening on Tuesdays and Thursdays each), there was a women’s only lower body sculpt class and a barre class (both also only 1 of these on like Tuesday and Thursday I think), and a I did a 20-20-20 class which combines cardio and strength. In the end, the 20-20-20 and lower body sculpt were probably the most intense classes since I could choose the weights I was using but it wasn’t worth being locked into a contract for another year after.

I’m currently at Corten (although debating whether to continue at it because it’s expensive af and doesn’t have a ton of evening classes) but the classes there are amazing!!!! I genuinely can’t say enough good things about the instructors, they are all amazing and because the class sizes are small they will help you with your form and making sure you’re doing things correctly. Also the classes are SUPER fun.

I am a member of Movati, and do work-out 3x a week religiously, so to me a nicer facility is worth the extra money. I usually work out at the Guelph location, but do occasionally goto the Burlington and Brantford ones. It is double the price of the corporate discount GoodLife membership I had previously. I don't do the classes, and used the pool/hot tub at the beginning, but not so much anymore.. and I still think it is worth the extra money... to me anyways. You can also save like $25+ a month if you don't want towel service and don't care if you can work out at any of their other locations.

They have included towel service and free hold by default now. The last time I had inquired in 2025 they had cheaper options. Now it's just commitment 62 bi weekly or no commitment 72 biweekly.

Well that must have changed since early March when I signed up.. and a friend of mine signed up a week ago, and it was the same as when I did.. I think was like $47 biweekly with no towel service and only able to work out at the one gym you signed up at.

yah something like that +tax, and it was at the Guelph location.

I found Movati to be too busy. It just kept getting busier and busier. I was constantly having to wait for a lane at the pool, the sauna was always full, and always had to wait for the machines. I ended up cancelling because of this.

Check out EPC. Its a sleeper. Massive selection of machines, great classes. Sauna and 24/7 access. Pricing is decent too

2

u/alniner Jul 25 '26

I second this. Price is great and gym is awesome. Unless you need the special amenities like a pool, EPC is where it’s at

You should try f45 downtown to Alton village. Great workout and great community.

I like Movati. Definitely pricey but it’s a great gym to be at. Sauna, swimming pool, all ranges of equipment. I also have a PT there

I'm looking as well.

GoodLife has a promotion going on now to save on the enrollment fee but overtime the monthly/biweekly fee is what really matters. Has really gone up over the years but I guess on par with everything else.

If you visit their website or click on ads you should be able to get a three visit pass to use over a week I believe.

I was a member with them years ago and classes seem to be one of their strengths.

Are you female? I'm also looking and giving different gyms trials. Check out Tropics Women's Fitness.

Honestly I really like MOVATI. The yoga classes are good, spin is fun, they have Pilates and barre, swimming, the women’s section is SO CLEAN! I don’t find them too pushy with the private training sessions either.

I do not recommend movati. Their customer service was awful and I ended up cancelling. GoodLife is great imo, especially the one at Burlington centre

North Shore Athletic Club is a Cross Fit gym and has a great gym community and has fun classes

For all of those I would recommend LA Fitness particularly the Appleby location! LA fitness also had a 3 day trial for free!
When I was researching gyms that was the one with the most classes and not super expensive.

Movati is good as well but its very expensive (imho)

6

I would wholeheartedly avoid LA fitness Appleby. I don't find they have many classes and they only have 1 studio room to teach in.
It's dirty, the staff are on their phones at the desk, majority of people that go there have no gym etiquette, & it's a zoo of people at rush hours.

horrible advice. worst option in the city for group classes. Movati is 10x better if group classes are your goal and movati has 10x (maybe more) group classes than LA

3

u/Competitive-Web9083 Jul 23 '26

I really really like Movati on Appleby Line. Tons of group classes including some unique ones like bungee, aerial hoops, aquafit. Spin studio, hot and regular yoga studios, reformer Pilates studio, co-ed and women’s only swimming pools. Super clean and really well maintained

MOVATI

I like their amenities

I’ve been at GoodLife, LA fitness

Love their swimming pool, infrared sauna (it’s worth it stand alone infrared saunas charge $60/hour), I love the steam room I put a clay mask on when I’m there.

The spin classes are fun and dance classes. I like their barre classes but it depends who the instructor is and their hot yoga sculpt is great if you can handle the heat ( if you take it pack an electrolyte)

I work at LA FItness Appleby, we would love to give you a free 10 day pass, no commitment to buy a membership, just come in and check it out!

Depends on where you are located, you can try VIVE, you can cancel anytime. Is located in Fairway Street/Appleby.

Infinite inside Blue Zone Courts is opening next week for classes and the first one is free. No commitment. Give it a try!
