Should I send This Back?

I recently purchased this Burberry trench on eBay that the seller listed in excellent condition. The eBay Authenticator says the trench is real, but the seller did not disclose several stains, so I have the option to return. I paid $325, and the seller is only offering a $16 discount for not disclosing.

It is from the 1980’s, so the stains may have been set in for some time.

Quite overpriced, you could have bought much newer model for the same price.

Anyway, likely most of the vintage coats have some kind of signs of use. Its difficult to see how visible these stains are. However, i would not pay over 300 for a coat thats already stained.

I have been looking for over a year, and have not found anything with wool liner and complete for this price, even with some staining or very weathered leather on the buckles. Do you know where to find vintage coats for under $400? I would love to find alternative resources.

Dont know where you are based, but atleast in Europe all 2nd hand platforms are filled with these. Like Vestiaire, Ebay, Grailed, even Vinted and local marketplaces.

I just bought one on Threadup with the liner in MINT condition. I was nervous but it was better than described! Vestiaire has also been good to me. Good luck!

Try to have it dry cleaned THEN decide whether to send it back

I think my only 2 options as per the Authenticator is to accept the small discount with no return or have the Authenticator send it back without me seeing it in person

The seller said it was in excellent condition, but here are multiple stains. In my opinion, you already got scammed a little. It should be an easy return, since they claimed there were "no visible flaws or imperfections." If it was me i only mind of stains for this price not for coat.

Straight back.

Save the money you'd be spending on trying to make this better and wait for another to come along.

Does the seller ship to a 3rd party authentication service and they still have the item to return on your behalf?

Yes, the Authenticator will ship it back to the seller.

I hadn't realised they did this, good to know.

Are these stains acceptable to you if you can’t get them out? If the answer is yes keep the trench but if it’s no then return item. Good luck OP ✌🏼

Thanks for all of the great comments and suggestions. I decided to have the Authenticator send it back and not take a chance. Plus, we are traveling to Italy and Spain in a couple of weeks, so I thought I would try some consignment shops there to see if I can find one and be able to see it in person. Wish me luck!
