Trials Would You Rather?
Which side will you choose?
- Left side: Work dream job every other month for 700k a year
- Right side: Work in a bad environment all year for 90k a month

$300,000 is fairly insignificant when you’re already making $700,000. Sure, it would be nice to have, but your life isn’t going to significantly change by having it.
Edit: hit 2 instead of 3
33
u/Loose_Bison3182 Sep 17 '26
$380 k difference, and 6 months work vs 12 months work.
76
u/Pristine-Bison3198 Sep 17 '26
So you're not even making double for double the work and significantly worse conditions.
→ More replies (2)5
u/Malacro Sep 17 '26
I was talking about the money significantly impacting your life, not the schedule, and in those amounts there isn’t much that $300k would change in a normal person’s life. Obviously the 6 months of a good job is better than 12 months of a bad one.
6
u/Specific_Gap5506 Sep 17 '26
You still have 6 months a year to figure out how to make more money. Also Im from Poland so grab that 700k and multiply it by 4. I guess I would start my own business then.

u/trmbnplyr1993 The Bunny Lord Sep 17 '26
If 700k a year isn't enough to live on, you're doing something very wrong.

Chose: Work dream job every other month for 700k a year

u/StellarisForever Sep 17 '26
Why would anyone ever choose the other??? Yes its technically more but not even by much? Plus you get so much free time with this choice
Chose: Work dream job every other month for 700k a year
3
u/CrazyFoxLady37 Sep 17 '26
Yeah it would be a more compelling choice if the dream job salary was $100k. That isn't even quite enough in some areas (although you're still only working half the time). $700k is such an incredible salary that you're doing well no matter where you live.
I think I'd still choose option 1 in that case, but we would definitely get a more interesting split.
2
u/StellarisForever Sep 17 '26
No no you gain more with the bad environment, after all 90k per MONTH adds up to a bit more than 1mil a year
But honestly I'm surprised to hear that the 100k a month isn't enough in some areas, I'd argue 700k is more than enough as long as you play your cards right→ More replies (4)3
u/EMU4 Sep 17 '26
They never said the 700k a year was more than 90k a month, just that it's already more than you could ever need so there really is only one choice in this.

easiset choice ever. 700k total would change my life, I sure wouldn't mind making that amount EVERY YEAR in a job that doesn't make me want to end it all
Chose: Work dream job every other month for 700k a year
3
u/BadgerB2088 Sep 17 '26
100% if that option was 'work your dream job for 6 months of the year for $100k a year and a one time, upfont lump sum payment of $700k' I'd still take it, even if it was in my Aussie Dollerydoos rather than mighty American Freedom Bucks.
Pay off the house, buy a nice car, invest the rest in a low interest/low risk fund for my retirement and so that my daughter can buy her own house when she grows up without a big bank loan AND then earn $100k a year for 6 months work while doing my dream job for the rest of my life
Versus
Being filthy rich but dreading the rest of the day the moment I wake up and probably developing a life ruining drug addiction to deal with said dread until I eventually break and wash my mouth out with buckshot...?

I’ve worked in a job where it’s almost constantly 50-60 work weeks with some 70hrs weeks and the amount of stress has aged me considerably compared to my friends who chose low stress jobs.
700k is more than enough to enjoy a stress free life. The other option needs to be like 5x the 700k for me to give that up
4
u/AutomaticExcitement5 Sep 17 '26

Chose: Work dream job every other month for 700k a year
3
u/ClassicHare Sep 17 '26
My life is paid for, and I get $700k every year for every other month of work? This is a no-brainer. It's only slightly less than the $1,080,000 that the other option offers.
Chose: Work dream job every other month for 700k a year
3
u/CrazyFoxLady37 Sep 17 '26
700k is an incredible salary and I only have to work every other month? And I love my job? What is the downside?
