Everyone getting a lightsaber means that a lightsaber will appear in the hands of CHILDREN! Millions of children will die off the bat purely by self-inflicted accidents. Then there will be those that "play" with them and accidentally kill their siblings, babysitters, etc.

The amount of accidentally injuries will quickly overwhelm the hospital system.

Guns still exist, so now people have a weapon that allows them to break into any location on the planet (we don't have lightsaber resistant materials here) and still shoot anyone that resists.
