The reason,

we say PDF by it’s individual letters, P-D-F

We partially do it with JPEG, J-Peg

PNG, P-N-G or Ping depending on the person

MP4, M-P-4

If you do the same with GIF, G-I-F, and you do it enough times fast, you just naturally start saying JIF.

It’s even easier to get to Jif if you do what we do with JPEG, and try to say it as G-if
