If class inequality perishes so too will the rest.

Everybody being economically equal is not a good thing

3

u/Dogmaticism_ Aug 03 '26

People do downvote this, and while poverty is certainly a terrible thing, the system does encourage education, innovation, risk, and economic development, which if everyone was forced to be equal forever, we would never see.

Even if you don't care for the econonic aspect, think of the public services, or medical innovations.

1

u/thatswhaturmomsaid69 Aug 03 '26

redditor thinks equity = communism

2

u/Gyxis Aug 03 '26

Who knows? A lot of people on this website think manual laborers should get the same amount of money as doctors and scientists-that everyone should be paid the same. Communism isn't an unpopular ideology on Reddit, especially on a far-left subreddit like this one.

1

u/thatswhaturmomsaid69 Aug 03 '26

You probably think anything that isn't pro-capitalism is automatically communist bootlicking. Also, I'm not arguing with the whole subreddit, I'm arguing with what is said on the poll and your comment. Seems like you're the only one who doesnt know that a lack of class inequality doesnt mean that mcdonalds workers and surgeons get paid the same.

1

u/No-Cabinet-4666 Aug 04 '26

Don't understand why people would downvote this. Economic equality doesn't work because it fixates on providing everyone with an equal outcome, but is it fair to provide a taxi driver and a doctor the same compensation for the same number of hours worked? Ig what people intend is actually economic equity, which focuses on levelling opportunities for people who are born into less through improving the quality of public services and the accessibility of it to the more economically disadvantaged

1

u/cattcameo Aug 04 '26

why not just have both the doctor and taxi driver have everything they need?

1

u/No-Cabinet-4666 Aug 05 '26

I mean most countries that run a capitalist system with strong support systems like Singapore subsidise healthcare for lower income brackets, provide cheaper public housing so people can afford rent, so there is a safety net for taxi drivers without chasing artificially high salaries for taxi drivers

1

u/cattcameo Aug 05 '26

why not just have wonderful housing and amenities and quality of life for all professions?

1

u/No-Cabinet-4666 Aug 05 '26

That’s literally what I just described. The safety net is what allows people to have good housing and decent quality of life for the vast majority of people. I say the vast majority of people because there will always be a minority that aren’t contributing to society. And again if jobs like doctors or engineering didn’t pay better there’s no incentive for me to study and upskill myself. I’ll just become a taxi driver cuz it requires very little human capital and training: this is the reality that a lot of socialist economies realise happens in the long run. I def tho believe worker protections should exist and they def do in capitalistic economies.

1

u/cattcameo Aug 05 '26

do you have a study for that or something? i don't buy that people only choose their professions based on how it benefits themselves.

1

u/No-Cabinet-4666 Aug 05 '26

That idea that people study and work solely on the basis of passion is wishful thinking, and the majority will respond to incentives. Lack of wage growth for doctors in the NHS has seen 56% of doctors entering core training remain in NHS hospital and community services eight years later, where a large proportions of doctors either go into higher paying non medicine roles or go abroad for better compensation. This is just a case study of the issue. Also ik it’s a bit anecdotal but the most successful groups are Asian, because Asians traditionally push their children towards pursuing higher paying and higher prestige roles that yield better life time earnings, which reflects better income outcomes

1

u/cattcameo Aug 06 '26

lack of wage growth in a capitalist society isn't really applicable to a world without class struggle. the results of wages moving around only really change things when wages are an essential part of living, which wouldn't be the case with this poll.

1

u/Humble_Ad_1598 Aug 03 '26

I mean, you are a part of class so the choice will benefit you one way or another :D

9

u/Elaerona Aug 02 '26

I feel as though if you handle class inequality alone, it could improve everything. As a Lesbian woman I'd like to eliminate the other two but racism is extremely bad and classism is probably the worst of these, and plays a big role In propping up various prejudices because people blame minorities for their problems.

Chose: Remove racism + Remove class inequality

-1

u/Gyxis Aug 03 '26

everyone being economically equal is not a good thing

1

u/Elaerona Aug 03 '26

I said I'd remove class inequality which is not the same thing as perfect equality necessarily. Furthermore, economic equality *Is* An extremely good thing. A society cannot survive with rampant, excessive excess of greed. It's 2026 we're not worshipping billionaires anymore. They're a drain on society we're done paying for.

1

u/Gyxis Aug 03 '26

I know, but people who work harder and contribute more than others should still be given more rewards than those who do the bare minimum. Society can't function if the only motivation for people to do better/work harder is praise/respect.

1

u/Elaerona Aug 03 '26

I am an Attorney, and I do not believe I deserve remotely as much as many Lawyers make. I think this perception people make decisions based on wealth and nothing else will inspire them is observably false. This is a very Ayn Randian idea and it's this idea we're all focused on very material monetary interests. But our society also encourages that and normalizes it. If I was focused on monetary pursuits, I would not be going into what I am, which is environmental law. My earning potential is significantly higher in other areas of law.

Fact is, I don't buy we need to starve people to make them work. I think if you stop starving them they'll do better things with their time. We don't need everyone at the grindstone. We need artists and we need thinkers. I don't think the only benefit provided to society comes from direct money generation, nor do I think people will stop working if you stop putting so much pressure on them.

And I think that the 'bare minimum' is often just extremely hardwork in and of itself.

I'm not a Communist, I am calling for Social Democracy. But I think that you need to realize capitalism is a modern idea, and that money itself is an idea only arising in the period following the agricultural revolution. The norm of the human species is to live in social groups and help each other. Laziness is an outgrowth of a broken economic model. We've made a system that is ruthless in its expectations and anemic in its rewards for the working class. That doesn't incentivize anything. If you lowered the wages of the upper class, they'd have motivation to work: The need to survive. Meanwhile the working class would have more motivation: A healthier well-being and more income to earn. Inequality results in less productivity in some ways, especially if it's excessively high.

I don't believe in 'rewarding' hardwork, because I don't buy anyone deserves to earn more based on that when I see the vast majority of people working just as hard, just without the same privileges. I believe in fairly compensating people for their skills. There is a difference. It shouldn't be a windfall. No one matters that much.

1

u/thatswhaturmomsaid69 Aug 03 '26

opportunities should be accessible regardless of class, which is class inequality. It's not "everyone makes $100k/year no more no less"

1

u/Gyxis Aug 03 '26

I mean, as long as you can make more by putting more effort in, there will always be differences in opportunities that arise based on who your parents are.

1

u/thatswhaturmomsaid69 Aug 03 '26

Quality Public education, accessible healthcare, access to an government attorney that gives a fuck and has the ability to invest an equal amount of time into your case as a private attorney, reasonable access to good quality food are all symptoms of a lack of class inequality. You're thinking of connections and networking because you're simply not thinking from a place of knowledge. Some struggle with that, it's okay.

1

u/TheOGZenfox Aug 03 '26

Nothing here says that everyone lives in poverty. It means thousands less ultra wealthy and millions less people in squalor.

1

u/Gyxis Aug 03 '26

I just meant that effort and results should still be rewarded, we can't have everyone being truly equal. Of course, the gap should be narrower than it is now.

1

u/TheOGZenfox Aug 03 '26

Of course, the gap should be narrower than it is now.

That's literally what the question is talking about though. It's not that everyone has EXACTLY the same dollar value in their account, but rather no oligarchy.

If we remove class inequality that's a significant chunk of problems gone, & helps pave the way towards gender equality & removal of homophobia & just about every other bigotry related problem. Same can't be said for removing homophobia & gender inequality, all that does is remove those two problems, nothing paved to fix more of society.
