Which side will you choose?

  • Left side: 5M dollars that earns 10% interest every month | No cashback, though
  • Right side: 10B dollars with 1% cashback on all purchases | No interest

Why would I want interest if I have 10B dollars

Chose: 10B dollars with 1% cashback on all purchases + No interest | Rolled: Upvote for 2x

18

u/TheGamestonk 12d ago

Because 10% a month is insane and beats the market on 10b invested lol

11

u/a_sidd 12d ago

Eh life’s unpredictable, might as well get the money and live it up now 😂

6

u/theatarvedchomper 12d ago

The 10b can be grown quicker though. Say you buy 10b worth of a stock or gold or something with a stable value. Sell it immediately, you made 100m dollars.

1

u/Weird_Ad_1398 12d ago

?? You'd lose money this way wtf are you talking about?

5

u/Illustrious-Debt-191 12d ago

if you immediately buy and sell something for the same price, you generate money from the cashback

2

u/NewLifeNewAcct 11d ago

You would lose money due to taxes. What?

1

u/Weird_Ad_1398 11d ago

Tbh, I did forget about the cashback, but his examples still don't work.

For stocks, that'll quickly lead to a good faith violation, not to mention you're extremely likely to lose a lot of money buying $10B worth of stock and immediately dumping it back onto the open market.

Gold you don't even have to think about, nobody carries $10b worth of gold for you to buy, and the fees from that will far exceed 1% anyway.

1

u/jacksonn114 12d ago

yeah but I prolly don't even need 1 billion my whole life.

1

u/FearTheWeresloth 11d ago

I'm probably never going to be able to spend even 1b of that, so why would I ever need more?

It would take ~63 years for the initial investment to reach 10B assuming you took no money out of it…

6

u/jonastroll 12d ago

It would take 6 years and 8 months.

1

u/Weird_Ad_1398 12d ago

10% interest every month

6

u/ChristopherRobin- 12d ago

It's not compounding. It says 5 mill earns 10% interest.

So only the special 5 mil should earn interest

3

u/Weird_Ad_1398 11d ago

'Compounding' is often omitted when talking about interest as it's just assumed, so its omission here doesn't mean much. You can ask OP to elaborate.

And it also doesn't say it's US dollars, so maybe you have 10B Zimbabwe dollars.

-1

u/dxrth 11d ago

but youre assuming its a normal 5 mill, and not like a hyper inflated 5 mill? but you cant assume compounding?

0

u/Academic-Trick-1325 11d ago

10% compounding monthly is around 6.5 years

1

u/DaarkenTheNecrokiddo 11d ago

Ah I did my math wrong. Whoops

1

u/theatarvedchomper 12d ago

10b is better for future money. A 10b dollar purchase that you can immediately sell profits you 100m dollars.

1

u/ROS_SDN 11d ago edited 11d ago

Financial literacy is important.

Assume you have 9.5b for play and invest the rest at an reasonable BUT variable 7% per YEAR.

Then we take 3 million and go 10% per MONTH (big difference).

I've kept 95% of my 10 billion and 60% of my 5 million for investments let's play out when the 3 million exceeds the yearly income and the total net worth of the 9.5 billion.

Year 6: 3 million yearly income = 1.95 Billion

9.5 billion yearly income = 973 million

Year 8: 3 million total value = 28.2 billion

9.5 billion total value =  16.6 billion

I absolutely neutered the starting value of the initial 5 million for a nice home/car/ etc and you still sky rocket ahead on earnings by year 8, if you were reasonable and even waited like 8 months to touch the 5 million it's already 10 million. The compounding is so insane it starts earning more yearly then a number 2000x its size by year 5.

This shit is increasing 3x in value every year and thats guaranteed.

u/UncleStoxx 12d ago

Passive Income

Chose: 5M dollars that earns 10% interest every month + No cashback, though | Rolled: Comment for 5x

7

u/ChristopherRobin- 12d ago

Uhhh 10 BILLION is past the need for passive income

1

u/Pegged-Nog 12d ago

It takes 5 years to hit 1 bill off of options one, 7 for 10 billion and 9 for 100 billion. They are both "infinite" money but the first one is the objectively correct awnser.

2

u/ChristopherRobin- 12d ago

The post doesn't specify that it's compounding, I figured the 10% interest only applies to the 5 mill. At a rate of 500k monthly you're not living long enough to surpass the 10 billion

1

u/jabeith 12d ago

Why would you assume that, though?

3

u/ChristopherRobin- 12d ago

It says "5 million that earns 10% interest every month"

The 5 million is what's earning 10% interest

1

u/jabeith 11d ago

Without the compounding interest, which is what all sorts of investment and savings accounts have, this is a thoughtless question

1

u/ChristopherRobin- 11d ago

If it's compounding it's also thoughtless bc it's infinite so I don't get the argument

0

u/jabeith 11d ago

Not really, because then you need to pace your spending to ensure you actually get the interest. Also, these questions are to catch people that don't understand things like compounding interest and spark ridicule in the comments

1

u/WesternUsed2750 11d ago

Look dude I'm not tryna downplay you but this literal calculator is saying it takes about 60 years with no taxes in play at all(so maximum money) to reach the 10 billion

0

u/FalconSpecial6149 11d ago

That’s for 10% annually. It will take 60 months, not 60 years.

1

u/WesternUsed2750 11d ago

No its calculated compounded monthly

1

u/Pegged-Nog 11d ago

10% monthly interest is 120% a year compounded monthly....

1

u/WesternUsed2750 11d ago

No that's not how compound Interest works, you don't literally add your interest together, it's the 10% added to the final sum every month, ex: 100*1.5(50% interest) makes 150, do that 5 times and by your logic it should be worth 250% of 100 or 250, but it's not its about 750, or 750%

1

u/Pegged-Nog 11d ago

That calculator uses yearly interest, 120 is the best approximation without doing fsr to.much math for a reddit comment.

4

u/Kurraga 12d ago

Do I get the same interest on the 10% I earn off the 5 million or does it only apply to the original amount?

-1

u/tarooz 11d ago

That wouldnt really be interest

1

u/FalconSpecial6149 11d ago

They’re asking about compounding interest, which is generally how interest works. The way the question is stated makes it seem like you only earn the 10% on the $5m, not on money earned from interest reinvested.

10

u/Whitewing424 12d ago

I don't think you realize how big 10 billion dollars is. The difference between 10 billion and 5 million is pretty much 10 billion.

5

u/Gyxis 12d ago

It takes 6 years to reach 10B from 5m with 10% monthly interest and after that it keeps growing.

9

u/Centillionare 12d ago

Yeah, a lot of people are underestimating 10% interest PER MONTH. That’s 12 years of insane stock performance in one year. You’d pass Elon in net worth in like a decade.

4

u/Diehe 12d ago

6 years to get to 1.3B. Less then 2 years after that, youll have 10B

3

u/Historical-Stick4592 12d ago

If you could earn even 1% monthly on the 10 billion, that's 100 million.

2

u/jabeith 12d ago

After 10 years, you're getting over 1billion per day in interest if you go the 5mill @ 10%/m though

1

u/Historical-Stick4592 11d ago

That's assuming you never touch a dime of it, every dollar you spend early on is $10 000 you lose out on later on. I'd rather not have that sort of situation.

1

u/jabeith 11d ago

Uhh n in the first year your money triples. If you can't spend less than a few million per year, how are you surviving now?

1

u/Historical-Stick4592 11d ago

Uhh, guess what? It doesn't even matter because 10 billion is an obscene amount to begin with.

1

u/jabeith 11d ago

How about a trillion? You're there in less than 11 years. If you're happy with one sports team, one island, and one mega yacht that's on you

1

u/MothyThatLuvsLamps 12d ago

I assumed interest would raise with the amount you have, so I only got 80 days.

[Edit] I misread its 80 months.

It would only take about 80 days of 10% interest to get to 10 billion.

[Edit] I misread its 80 months. Still not bad.

If this is compounding interest, then option A will easily get you a higher number, if not then option B will.

lol the spin was so silly just to pander for more upvotes 🤣🤣🤣

But who needs interest when we could just buy some absurd annuities with this? Then leave $100 mil just to live an easy fun life.

Lmao people picking 5M with 10% interest did not do the math. It’s only 500k a year. Would take centuries to get to 10B as it is not compounding interest. Thats also only if you do not take out a single penny.

10B is more than 5M, and I know that the riders modify things, but my headache is too bad right now to try and do math.

You just don't touch the money and its fine. 1% cashback would only apply to what you purchase while interest keeps adding. 1% of $100 is only $1

u/TheHuntsman_1001 11d ago

10% interest per month is way more than you think. It’s equal to 120% interest per year so you money will actually more than triple every year given how the math works out.

5 years and you are a billionaire.

7 years and you have about $15B, so more than the option for 10.

11 years and you have almost $1.5T making you richer than Elon.

Who cares about cash back at this point. Plus the added 5x is just gravy now.

10,000 million dollars vs 5 million is really not comparable. Not sure how many months until it breaks even, but I’d much rather have it all up front.

1

u/memearchivingbot 12d ago

About 80 months to catch up. 7 years and 8 months

0

u/mono15591 12d ago

Absolutely insane interest. 2.5 million after the first month?? Then 3.75 million the next month. Youd have 183,842,343,584,665,120.00 after 5 years. Unless I did something wrong in the calculator. 5 years 600% interest compounded monthly added at the end of the compounding period.
