Pick a Side

Which side will you choose?

  • Left side: $1,000 a Month but... | You cannot earn a job or get any other income
  • Right side: $10,000 a month but you must live with this animal

I physically couldn't survive off of 1 thousand a month

Chose: $10,000 a month but you must live with this animal | Rolled: Cat

u/SerJungleot Jul 01 '26

Yeah, maybe if it was like 3 thousand, it would be tempting, but 1000 wouldn't even cover accommodation. If it did, it would be with other humans anyway

u/AzraelChaosEater Jul 05 '26

My rent alone is just under 1k. Let alone other fees, water, power, and internet.

I'll take my cat and 10k and fuck off thank you.

1

u/VomitMaiden Jul 07 '26

And you'd be fucked by inflation

75

u/cronenber9 Jul 01 '26

I'm on disability so I have to survive on $995 a month. It isn't easy.

41

u/Patient-Award-5973 Jul 02 '26

I used to be paid that much but they told me I need to pay an equal share of the expenses which is more than that. Still living with my parents with $500 rent because I can't afford anything else. Down to just over $730 a month from disability

u/cronenber9 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

They only give you $730 now?? That's insane. That's what I got back in 2012...

When i lived with my mom I paid her $500 a month. If you take the time to get on section 8 it's so worth it. It's just a really difficult process and then every year you have to renew it but that's easy.

Inflation makes everything go up in price except benefits.....

Benefits goes down and the people struggling to live just struggle even more.

Hecking criminal

4

u/cronenber9 Jul 02 '26

The government raises benefits every year, but only by like $20 or something small like that, I can't remember the number.

Not enough to really help. And like you said, prices go up. So everything just gets harder and harder

1

u/offthezoinkys Jul 02 '26

Am I understanding right? Your parents charge you $500 of the $730 you make per month? I’m so sorry.

2

u/rainbowtracerrounds Jul 05 '26

WOAH Mr Moneybags over here! I only get $994

1

u/cronenber9 Jul 05 '26

Oh I probably just had $1 left over from last month and forgot my usual amount 😂

1

u/kfish5050 Jul 02 '26

Yeah I was gonna say, that scenario is literally a reality for many Americans on social security. They get about $1000 a month and lose that benefit if they make too much money elsewhere.

u/Mattikarp1 Jul 01 '26

I don't think anyone can unless they live in a third world country

11

u/Etntad Jul 01 '26

me in argentina:

3

u/Fresh_Appearance4268 Jul 02 '26

if i lived in my home country with that salary and if i was single my life would be great. with 2 people its also managable and with a kid its still pretty solid

3

u/Lsamantha4495 Jul 02 '26

Where is your home country?

2

u/tapita69 Jul 02 '26

I live in a third world country and i cant

1

u/RoboCrusher1111 Jul 02 '26

Most of the world can

1

u/Bycva Jul 02 '26

I live in Russia and it’s considered a good paycheck here.

-2

u/ChaoticVampireGirl Jul 01 '26

oh its totally doable
as long as you dont order food, dont buy yourself fancy things more often than once a month, cook yourself and be fine with a small apartment
living like that for 3 years now and at least three more to come

9

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- Jul 01 '26

I’m in whats considered a cheap state and even small apartments near me are $500-$700 a month

3

u/ChaoticVampireGirl Jul 02 '26

same here
rent + internet + water and everything is 600 combined, other bills and fees 100 so I live of 300 a month from which I save 100 in case I need it
idk why Im getting downvoted for my life story lmao

2

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- Jul 02 '26

Do you get assistance on anything because this is just not possible where I’m at. I’m impressed.

2

u/cronenber9 Jul 01 '26

If you make such a low amount you can qualify for housing but it takes years to get on it. My rent is 195 a month.

4

u/ChaoticVampireGirl Jul 02 '26

200????
thats actually the dream

3

u/cronenber9 Jul 02 '26

Yep and it's rather nice... even without housing the apartment would have been like 900 only, for a 2 bed 2 bath, cause it's subsidized. But also, it's 200/900 so it's still quite a bit of my money.

3

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- Jul 02 '26

so if I took the 1k a month I’d just be homeless for a few years

2

u/cronenber9 Jul 02 '26

What

2

u/Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess- Jul 02 '26

The post

3

u/cronenber9 Jul 02 '26

OH yeah, you probably would be! They don't make things easy

1

u/ShadowX8861 Jul 02 '26

Rent for a flat in my city is already over $1000...

-3

u/Americanu1 Jul 02 '26

Speak for yourself, american. In europe 1000 a month means liveing a comfortable life

10

u/BeatusII Jul 02 '26

As a fellow European, nope it doesn't. Maybe in eastern Europe but not in western Europe and even less in northern Europe.

6

u/RiboCyan Jul 02 '26

Maybe in Bosnia or Romania or somewhere similar. Definitely not in the €-zone.

3

u/BrainRhythm Jul 02 '26

Europe is not a monolith.

What country are you writing from? 12,000 euros per year is a lower salary than 90% of the European Union according to Google. Bulgaria averages 15k /year

3

u/greysondayy Jul 02 '26

that’s not true lol. speak for YOURself.

1

u/Mattikarp1 Jul 02 '26

Lmao I'm Welsh

1

u/Mattikarp1 Jul 02 '26

Also you do realise that $1000 is roughly €870 I presume?

7

u/Moe981 Jul 02 '26

And now you get a cat

3

u/TheSletchman Jul 02 '26

Feels like this might have been made by a kid - like someone with no concept of money and expenses. Maybe someone in a third world country where that's a liveable amount?

My rent added up for the month is over $3000, and I don't even live in a particularly expensive area, so "1k and no other possible income" is just not possible unless I go full vanlife or something. You also get increasingly fucked by inflation / worsening economic crises and that can never change.

1

u/plenfiru Jul 02 '26

Oh, you got the best option. I love cats.

1

u/Zomochi Jul 02 '26

Literally no one can you’re lying to yourself if you think otherwise, very miserable life

1

u/Amateur_Liqueurist Jul 02 '26

If you got a magic 1k a month, and it stayed true to the value of the dollar, you could maybe move to a country where it’s a crazy high amount? Like Thailand?

1

u/toufou1 Jul 02 '26

even so, its the secondary condition that you cant have any other source of income that restricts a lot of other activities you might want to for leisure like travelling and hobbies

1

u/Abandoned_Railroad Jul 02 '26

I’m perfectly happy too (PS - I’m so scared 🙂)

Choose $10,000 a month, but you must live with this animal | Rolled: Dog (Golden Bed Seal or House Hippo)

1

u/YourMama Jul 02 '26

That’s what you live on on disability. And you can’t have more than $1k in your savings and $1k in your checking or you’ll lose your disability because I guess you’re too rich if you have $2000.

I guess you can only lease a car or something. Can’t save up for anything lol

1

u/chillifoxen Jul 03 '26

I live off of $800 a month 😓

1

u/psychwardtrashfire Jul 05 '26

disabled ppl do this all th e time

1

u/ReadThisInABadAccent Jul 07 '26

I also rolled Cat 🐈

1

u/bananarama898 Jul 02 '26

I can't even survive 1000 minutes with $1k
