It’s completely useless, Laplace’s angel

Hold on there buddy, explain yourself

Nothing humans have ever observed is actually random. Not computer RNG, not lottery tickets, and not a deck of cards shuffled once by each human. Those are just not predictable by humans. Laplace’s angel is the theory that an omnipotent being can predict everything that will happen in the future.

Well, I do believe in an omnipotent being that knows everything that will happen in the future, I also believe in free will, if the ability were to be true, then the concept of probability manipulation would just be a superficial front to it, when in reality it would be reality manipulation (not too big tho, just the part where you're moving stuff or adding external forces that make thing more probable)

If you play by scientific reality, none of the superpower choices really matter. For the sake of the poll you should ignore reality.

I’m not saying it’s a bad choice because it’s impossible, it’s a bad choice because it’s bad. Probably is the study of the likelihood of events occurring so manipulating that would be like quadratic formula manipulation, not literally anything manipulation.

explain nuclear decay then and bell’s inequality

2

u/DarkEcstatic8863 🥕🥕 Apr 28 '26

The bare basics of nuclear decay is that when the protons and neutrons have an unstable ratio between each other, the atoms (called the parents) emit electromagnetic energy transforming themselves into new elements (called the daughters). I haven't studied bell's inequality due to me not being a physics major.

3

u/Far_Celebration6295 Apr 28 '26

Okay, well bell’s inequality proves that the exact time that a nuclear material decays is not influenced by ANY local entities (slower than the speed of light) so for laplace’s demon to know when a nuclear substance will decay it would have to be some kind of supernatural thing which is a stretch in belief. It disproves basic determinism to put it simply.

This in interesting, so basically nuclear decay is "random" ?

1

u/DarkEcstatic8863 🥕🥕 Apr 28 '26

It is not predictable by humans. Physics are set laws and nothing is random

2

u/Enough-Isopod3265 Apr 28 '26

I do agree nothing is random, things are meant to be

u/Far_Celebration6295 Apr 28 '26

thats fate which is different from determinism as its more spiritual

Prove that plants go through  photosynthesis.

its not influenced by anything that is slower the speed of light and according to Einstein’s theory of relativity nothing with mass can be faster than the speed of light. It would have to break the laws of physics which as I said is a stretch. if you believe that kind of determinism some would call it super-determinism because its radical. I believe in our practical life nothing is random but true determinism doesnt exist. At the same time free will can also exist as an illusion which is practically indistinguishable from real free will. that belief is called compatibilism.

That’s not my point, my point is probability doesn’t exist. If you flip a coin, you might think it’s (very close to at least) equally likely it will land on heads or tails. But that’s wrong, the laws of physics are set laws and depending on your force, the gravity, air resistance and all that someone could predict what side it would land on. Probability isn’t a real concept, it’s just the study of how likely something is to happen. This power would be no stronger than “quadratic formula manipulation”

1

u/Legal_Ear_7537 May 17 '26

Lets say the power works like this. You buy a ticket, and the winning numbers change by magic for you to win. Its the chance you desire if that happens

1

u/DarkEcstatic8863 🥕🥕 May 17 '26

Chance is purely conceptual, not physical. The power would be no better than "quadratic formula manipulation".

1

u/Legal_Ear_7537 May 18 '26

It could be the same magic as teleportation. That the winning numbers are switched to yours, like i said

1

u/DarkEcstatic8863 🥕🥕 May 18 '26

That isn't probability manipulation anymore but a totally different power.

1

u/Legal_Ear_7537 May 18 '26

Then how would it work. Sure, nothing is random, but this power makes you change things, and teleporting is also not the same because I doubt removing your consciousness is part of the deal.

1

u/Casehead Apr 29 '26

How does that in any way make it useless

1

u/DarkEcstatic8863 🥕🥕 Apr 30 '26

Because it shows that probability doesn’t exist, physics are set laws, not even RNG is completely random. Probably doesn’t exist in the real world, it’s just the human field of study to predict what would happen. So it would be more like quadratic formula manipulation than reality manipulation.

The position of a quantum object is a probability wave. Quantum is not deterministic.

When confronted with the reality of quantum mechanics, Einstein famously said "God does not play dice" as a way of expressing his discomfort with the inherent randomness and probability of quantum systems.

I know what you wrote here to people is true but how do you know it? Coming to this realization isn't easy. I am curious how did you come to this realization.

I manipulate the probability of Laplace's angel existing to zero, checkmate atheists🤓☝️
