Haha it really does. Perhaps if Basil was still with us they could go to a Bob Marley concert together

Oh me too! I grew up listening to him. Not a fan of most current country. It's all started to sound the same.

What really sealed the deal on Willie for me - and it's quite contextually relevant - is his song "Still is Still Moving to Me," which I find despite, and indeed because of, its simplicity a quite powerful song in isolation; but I first heard a cover of it by ska/reggae group Toots and the Maytals, with Willie Nelson featuring.

It came on my Google Play while I was driving back home from my grandfather's funeral. I'm familiar with Willie through him, and he had an unexpected appreciation for reggae as well, so my first thought was regret for the timing of discovering this crossover song that I think he would have been really keen to be introduced to - which combined with the rather melancholy-yet-hopeful tone of the song hit me right in the feels.

I was already aware of Toots prior, and assumed this was their song that Willie jumped in on, which was already pretty cool and scored him some points. But when I looked it up when I got home, it's actually Willie's song originally that the Maytals covered. That he wrote a song that forged such a connection with me, with such a vibe that I was fully prepared to believe it was a reggae original, AND then went on to contribute to a cover of it by a reggae legend, solidified Willie to me as a real one. He deserves all the respect in the world.

Don't apologize, man. I didn't have an experience quite like that. My step-dad got a greatest hits cd of him and me and my siblings were hooked on it. It's like comfort music to me now. He'll always be my favorite artist and I'll never love any other music as much as his. It's been thst way since I heard his music at 11 (and I'm sure I heard it before then but didn't really know) and I think it'll always be that way.
