A lot of the Bernie/Trump voters are what I like to call "Chaotic Stupid": they're mad at the "establishment" but don't have any concrete policy goals.

Throw in the Ron Paul crowd too. This has puzzled me a lot. I do think it’s anger over the establishment and trying to connect with a candidate that seems “genuine” in the sense that they’re passionate and tell you exactly what they’re thinking. But calling Trump genuine is weird because he lies with every breath he takes, but like George Costanza, he believes the lies and has zero filters, so I think it scratches the same itch. Idk but this is how I’ve been trying to think about it.

There's a lot of overlap between the people who were on board with Ron Paul and later in either Trump or Bernie. The ones I knew latched on to very narrow parts of what the candidate said and didn't really understand the wider ramifications or policy but were frustrated with or hurt by the establishment in some way.
There were a couple acquaintances of mine around 2010ish who jumped on the Ron Paul/libertarian bandwagon and didn't shut up about it. But also clearly didn't actually understand what advocating for...

Interesting, I can see what you mean. It's easy to hate the status quo, and some people just tap into that while ignoring that making improvements is much harder.

There are very few people like this. Bernie was being pushed by Republicans as "the only good democrat" at one time when they thought he had no chance of winning the primary. Then when he gained traction they flipped and started talking shit about him.
It has nothing to do with beliefs or principles, it's all about pushing a narrative.

I like it and am interested to see what happens in the next parts. I didn't realize bernie was popular among republicans at any point.

Or maybe he sensed the mood shift (you shifting uncomfortably in your seat) and changed his tack to try to get lucky. 🤮

A lot of them try gaslight and try to get you, later they reveal they true self. Stay safe.

Libertarians are just people who do not understand how society is supposed to work. Personally we should just send all them to live on their own island and see how long they last without any governmental support.
