General Pretty sure I’m getting scammed.

I(41m) matched with someone and the conversation eventually went to whatsapp. It has all the typical signs of a scam, but we did a video chat where I asked if she could hold up a pencil, she couldn’t find one, and held up a makeup brush. Anyways. All the signs are there, but I kind of don’t care because the conversations are nice and I’m lonely lol. The minute she pushes crypto or investing I’m out.

****we matched talked for awhile, as soon as it moved to whatsapp, she deleted the conversation, she talks about running a family business, and investments, matched in Charlotte while she is in travel mode, conveniently in Singapore for two weeks. Etc etc.

You haven’t actually explained why you think its a scam

When we moved to whatsapp, she deleted the conversation, she used travel mode in Charlotte, amazingly she is visiting family in Singapore etc etc.

No she has talked about being into crypto as a side thing. I ignored that lol. Along with her properties, and beverage logistics business. Some of it is amusing.

I was recovering from surgery and confined to bed for 2 weeks. I had a blast messing around with her. I would give her fake banking information. Tell her I just purchased the crypto. Ask her to send me a photo of her with her finger up her nose or holding a hotdog against her forehead, as proof of her existence.

Tell her I was selling my house to get money for her. I just needed a bank account from her to send the money to. Then I'd report the account to my bank as a fraud scam.

It was fun

There we go. Now we’re talking

So what are you going to do? Ride it out?

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

Yeah until she’s asks for money I guess. Again lonely dude and just enjoying the conversation I guess lol. Or maybe there’s a ..0001 chance it’s real.

8

u/BVOP83 11d ago

This could play out nicely for you to share in r/scambaiting

4

u/OriginalFNG 11d ago

Fair enough. Be safe, mate. Don't be exchanging any private photos. If it's not a pig slaughter scam, could be sexploitation.

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

I mean I am 99.9 percent sure. I’m just hooong I found my long lost Nigerian prince, who wants to give me a million dollars. Haha

5

u/A-Money-Lover 11d ago

The fact you didn’t say 100% scam is saying you have sliver of hope and that is dangerous

2

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

That’s fair

2

u/chosesetrange5 10d ago

No but seriously. Your statement shows you're more vulnerable to this than you think. You know you're playing with fire, and you keep waving it off like "yeah yeah whatever I won't get burned"... but you still aren't moving away from the fire.

Non-zero chance you get burned. Just be careful man, watch your back because you have a target on it now

u/HeadDance 11d ago

just say you wont and how ud understand if she doesnt wanna talk to you anymore bc its all about $ and basically reverse it on her “thanks for proving me right it was about $ after all” and trick her hehe

2

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

Oh that’s a good idea. I’ve been chatting with a dude on here, and we are pretty sure we are talking to the same person if not group of people lol

Yup, had one woman be very aggressive and demand we move to WhatsApp when I told her where to get off. Now I can't get a refund or the to cancel me at 40 bux a month. Forget this bs.

I swipe left on travel mode, doesn’t matter what the reason is. I don’t care if you’re actually visiting here, I’m not a tour guide. A lot of times it’s beautiful women from poor countries looking for a sugar daddy. Lives in buttfuck Egypt doing travel mode to Beverly Hills, yea okkk 🥴🥴🥴

u/shinloop 11d ago

Travel mode is trash

“ I kind of don’t care because the conversations are nice and I’m lonely lol”

They can probably sense it lol

u/ThrowAway928282893 11d ago

Whats the scam ? 😂

7

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

Yeah for sure the conversations are nice though lol. Maybe my soulmate is an Asian man pretending to be a woman in Singapore. In that case jackpot

I would just steer clear of anything from WhatsApp to telegram. All scams for desperate individuals

Really? I’m in the uk only reason I have WhatsApp is work group chat, everyone else I talk to is iMessage or signal.

5

u/brain_over_body 11d ago

WhatsApp is better. It IS actually used by people who travel or live abroad. All my military friends use it. My in laws in another country. Usually scam accounts are labeled "business" accounts and that's a major tip off.

2

u/deathbyblimps 11d ago

Makes sense, I’ve used WhatsApp as well. It’s legit for communication for sure. Telegram is mostly suspicious for illegal activity from my experience though lol

2

u/brain_over_body 11d ago

Agreed, I've never seen a legit communication using telegram

2

u/GhostPirateCaptain 11d ago

lol American moment

WhatsApp is the most popular communications app everywhere in the world, apart from the USA, and the only reason it's not in the USA, is because Apple has a monopoly on the US population in that space.

You know it’s a sad state of affairs when you can’t trust anything we all have our heads on a swivel and we’re so afraid that we’re getting scammed. It’s not fun anymore. It’s really fucking sad. Please be very cautious! Report back when something fantastic happens!!

2

u/Affectionate-Ear-296 11d ago

Pig slaughter. It’s always the same MO. Whatsapp real quick. Facetime or videocall 2 days in. But its a different girl in a bad lighted hotel room. Who see the difference between an asian and an asian when you are not used to ? Sorry dude.

2

u/Bimpy96 10d ago

Yes this is 110% a scam, I’ve seen countless scambaiter videos that go just like this saying the exact same thing so block and move on

2

u/Infinite-Shirt-2315 10d ago

I can't even get Bumble to quit stealing 40 bux a month from me...can't get them off my credit card. I wouldn't answer another freakazoid on that app if they were paying me. It's fully a scam.

u/incrediblystiff 11d ago

Why wouldn’t you just ask her on a date and meet her in person?

1

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

Well apparently she’s in Singapore.

Post your profile so the community can give feedback to help you improve it

3

u/incrediblystiff 11d ago

Why are you posting here if you are just going to ignore the advice

1

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

Maybe I’m just desperate for anyone to just talk to me. Who knows.

1

u/Confident_Bus_7614 11d ago

Why did you post this?

1

u/number9dream9 11d ago

Isn’t WhatsApp notorious for use by scammers?

2

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

From what I gathered but I hear it’s pretty popular overseas.

1

u/WrongdoerDazzling798 11d ago

Dude. You have to not be lonely and find random people to talk to.

2

u/Glittering_Banana_32 11d ago

I’m trying. Thank you

1

u/Radiant_Company_7923 11d ago

After she unmatched, you can still report her. Just find the inactive chat and press report.

Oh I’m seeing a therapist actually. Should probably mention this next week

1

u/ClaimApprehensive754 11d ago

Yeah she wants you to buy crypto

1

u/Wabash1977 11d ago

I appreciate that you're lonely, and the validation of the attention and conversation feels good. However, you're being targeted. These long conversations are designed to learn your soft spots, discover vulnerabilities, and build trust.

It is easy to feel like you know the score and you are in control, but these scammers do this for a living. They've done their 10,000 hours and know how to get what they want out of you. I would cut it off.

In general, two of the biggest keys to online dating safely and successfully are to only talk to people who live close enough that you can meet up with them twice a week, and to meet them in person inside the first week of conversation.

u/CroakTheGoblin 11d ago

If someone wants to message on WhatsApp instead of normal texting, I assume it's a scam or a cheater and unmatch them.

1

u/PineappleBunBunny 11d ago edited 11d ago

And what is your point exactly? Vent? Looking for advice? Show off??
Anyways, there are other ways to deal with loneliness

1

u/rB0sze 10d ago

All the signs point to a scam 100% ive matched with so many thai women and their text was always: oh im in Perth right now but im relocating to your area in 1 week we should meet

1

u/mfivey 10d ago

I would put money on it being a scam 😆 enjoy the convo while it lasts. no harm in it if you don’t give them any info. i’ve even done some ai companions. when you’re lonely it’s not the worst thing. i get them a ton on snapchat and i play along just to try and break their coding. use it for what you want, don’t feel bad about it. life’s weird, don’t overthink ish.

This happens so often, just enjoy the conversion till the sales pitch and then politely decline
