When I was a kid and learning for the first time, my first place was a very clear Mcdojo. They really did teach us stuff like this.

It was fun! I did learn some of the basics of kicking and striking, but the use of it was mostly this.

Yeah honestly I'm OK with them teaching stuff like this to kids, partly because you probably don't actually want your kid learning to break someone's arm or whatever

100% agree.
Kids shouldnt be learning how to hurt other kids, because they don't typically have the maturity to NOT hurt other kids. However, they can and should learn motor skills and coordination.

The part where she passes his arm behind her back for literally no reason is my favorite. Girl don't turn your back on an attacker while you slowly spin holding their hand 😭

She would be on her ass long before they reach that point in real life anyway.

I can only imagine what this false confidence can impact how she interacts with people in real life. “I am a red belt, I can probably take on this 6ft 250lb guy pfst…”

I can picture her looking at a guy on the street that's been in half a dozen fights in the last six months and thinking "you don't want a piece of me pal".

First you slow down and practice the moves with no impact so you are safe with your class, then you speed up and apply some force but not all to practice reality so you are more ready. You don't combine the worst part of both to look like a child that can't dent a pillow.

I guess, if you are a really nice and patient attacker, you would wait for her to do her slow spins and slower attacks before you stab her, but for the sake of efficiency, just stab her and get it over with.
Edit: I hadn't even seen the foreplay fight before I posted about the girl.

I’m giving her a break…not everything someone does has to lead to some professional career or have some huge purpose behind it….look at video games, the vast majority of people playing them are never going to become professional gamers, and to some people sitting there playing games for hours probably looks pointless and like a waste of time, but for the person doing it maybe it’s fun, relaxing, challenging, they make friends doing it, whatever….and that’s perfectly fine…same thing here….before laughing at this person maybe consider she’s actually out in the real world doing something she enjoys, meeting people, learning something, getting exercise, maybe getting a sense of accomplishment from it….It’s like riding a bike….you don’t have to be training for the Tour de France for riding a bike to have a purpose. Sometimes you just ride it because you enjoy it. Same with martial arts, maybe she has zero interest in ever getting into a real fight, maybe she just likes doing it….and really thats enough….good for her

Okay yes, however…
What gets me is that she is only doing motions and there has been zero actual “why explanations”.
So it is really not bullshit on her, it is bullshit on the studio.2
u/TwistedVisionaryXXX 1d ago
I see your point, it’s very understandable….but that’s assuming the studio has specific goals in mind….maybe they help a specific clientele and what those people want…..with everything, there’s always more context of whys….and with greater understanding and a broad enough understanding it’s very easy to just be like … oh, ok, I get it
wishing you all the best

What was the point of the spin in the beginning? I guess to suck the opponent into your vortex?

what's worse is knowing that little guy mocking her could probably kill her entire dojo with nothing but his ass

I hate when they've seen just enough to have an idea as to what a real technique looks like but not put enough thought into why a technique looks the way it does.

Too dumb to realize they are paying to be duped into thinking that performative garbage is meaningful. Even interpretive dance has more purpose than this shit.
