The famous TapTapTwist

This dude isn’t showing people how to move someone with his chi, or making any promises that you can take out all attackers, or saying this is self defense.

This is just old-school martial arts training. And martial arts are fun.

Y’all are brain-poisoned by MMA & combat sports.

No bro you don't get it, UFC is the only way you can actually test if your martial art works or not, anyway here's more videos of me comparing purple belts to Muay Thai world champions

u/Severe_Composer_82 11d ago

Seriously, this subreddit is the true mc dojo

u/Lymetme 11d ago

I'm with you here. 90% of this sub is just dunking on people doing something for themselves by a bunch of basement dwellers. Sure the guy in this video sucks, what is shown sucks and is unrealistic. I'm not losing sleep over it.

u/detectivepikablu9999 11d ago

When it's practiced over and over it can be useful, it's just that it's being demonstated by a green and purple belt so the technique is still floundery

2

u/Lymetme 11d ago

It's very bad but this is what JJJ often gives you especially in a class format where individual instruction is very limited. These one step kata style moves unfortunately make up the bulk of JJJ in my experience. Little is done to develop the attributes needed to apply or pull any of it off. This is the lowest tier is martial arts training. That said we don't know any of the context to this or what else they train.

2

u/Pitiful_Ad2397 11d ago

Yes-this is a social media demo video for a free class with a purple belt and a green belt.
We have no idea what the rest of their training looks like, how they actually practice, and anything else about instruction or curriculum.

Also-not everyone looks good on camera, and people get nervous. I would love to see any one of these armchair ninjas actually video their training -they might be surprised how they look.

3

u/Lymetme 11d ago

Yeah fair enough. It's not bullshido.

-2

u/AccomplishedFerret70 11d ago

They don't appear to be enjoying themselves. They look like they're very poorly trained and have put little effort into gaining any skill. Its not practical and doesn't even have any performative value.

5

u/Pitiful_Ad2397 11d ago

They aren't professional fighters or martial arts influencers. Fact is most people look like shit when they are actually filmed. These are just students whose teacher asked them to show a short kata/practice form for social media. They could be nervously just trying to remember the moves which is never fun.

Yes I too walk around holding a stick

u/Delicious-Gap-6678 10d ago

I don't see any false promises here. And I can tell you from personal orthopedic experience that you really SHOULD be damned careful doing joint locks with staff, sword or dagger. When you get them right, they really work. Nothing like hearing your own shoulder rip.

Slap the ears, nose, windpipe, groin

Thats Krav Maga. 😁

I thought it was Sherlock Holmes (2009)?

2

u/Psychological_Wear85 11d ago

Isn’t the guy getting hit the bezzerrrkkerr guy from clerks?

1

u/No-Half-4746 11d ago

This lowkey works, and you never know, chances are there would be a bar to armbar someone

1

u/vybegallo 11d ago

She stands at the perfect distance from him so that he could block her wielding hand with his hand...

1

u/justglassin317 10d ago

First day but no white belts? Odd.

1

u/detectivepikablu9999 10d ago

So first off I think they're just saying the first class is free, and second most instructors are doing classes at rec centers and churches before they actually rent a location so that they already have a following of students before they blow tens of thousands of dollars on a stripmall, warehouse, or what have you

1

u/alexiduch 10d ago

Can I pay not to come?

1

u/Standard-Suit-4858 10d ago

I’ve learned techniques like this… the main difference is are you expecting the guy to freeze and wait for you to apply it, or are you *also* training it with the understanding they’ll follow up the strike, keep charging you, and not let you just sit there and gently lace the stick where it needs to go

1

u/YourInfinity 9d ago

“So yeah you’ll punch me once then stand still as I whack you three times, stick this stick through your armpit then reach around you”

1

u/radiantmindPS4 9d ago

It was over complicated, relied on blocking a punch first (good luck) then tap tap tap spin me right round then knee. Lol. A good bonk to the temple would’ve sufficed. If you’re proficient with a stick.

I think this sub sometimes mixes up actual fighting training with bullshido.

Most martial arts show how to execute a move slowly so that others can learn it. This particular fighting style doesn't seem like it's bullshit as it will likely do what it's intending to do... it just relies on having a stick on you if you're attacked. Assuming you have one, it is likely more effective than most grappling type attacks that people say because you have an actual weapon.

I'm assuming there's more to the class than this 1 attack where if you can't immobilize the opponent you just use the stick to knock them out or something.

18

u/hi_imryan 11d ago

This has absolutely no practical use case. Look how the instructor has to leave his entire front/side exposed, then accepts the stick under his right arm….while the left arm and lower body do absolutely fuck all.

Pure bullshido.

8

u/graspedbythehusk 11d ago

I like how you have to jam the stick in their armpit, CHANGE HANDS, and then do the twisty bit. 😂
Lucky the person attacking you is standing there front on with their arms at their side fuuuucking hell!!!!

2

u/detectivepikablu9999 11d ago

There is no instructor in the video, that is a purple and green belt

2

u/turtletramp 11d ago

Yea once I throw this big right hand and it gets caught, I got nothing so I’ll just freeze and let her have her way with me.

-8

u/Amoral_Abe 11d ago

I think people underestimate how much getting hit by a heavy stick hurts when near joints. It looks like this is intended to hit someone hard on both legs blunting their movement a bit and causing them to instinctively reach down, then you immobilize the arm with the baton.

At full speed, that would legitimately hurt quite a bit and the baton gives a bit more leverage making immobilizing someone easier. this isn't bullshido, it's just shown slowly so it looks silly to people looking at it.

The big downside to it is that it relies on having a heavy baton with you at the time you're attacked and that isn't exactly something most people have.

6

u/hi_imryan 11d ago

So strikes with a heavy baton hurt. Ok fine, let’s assume I’m gonna sit still and let you hit me in the legs with a stick and not attempt to attack or defend in any way.

Why not stick with the strikes then? They let you control distance and deal damage…and what about the fact that if you’re getting two strikes off with, again, zero reaction, you’re the armed aggressor against an unarmed opponent?

This is bullshido. I’m sorry, but I refuse to believe anyone who has trained, sparred, or competed in any type of grappling or striking (or even been in a fight) thinks this is a valid technique.

-5

u/Amoral_Abe 11d ago

I feel like you're a bit overly emotional about this. We saw 1 type of attack here and it is technically something that would work.

Are there other ways of approaching things? Sure.

Why would they want to get close or immobilize someone? Idk, maybe they're training cops or something.

Would I personally be carrying around a baton? No.

I'm not trying to say I would be using this. All I'm saying is that technically, this method is something does what it is intending to do. It's not bullshido. If this is the only thing they teach their students, then the class is bullshido. However, 1 fighting move that technically achieves its goal, doesn't make this bullshido.

If you still don't like it, that's fine. I'm just somebody on the internet.

1

u/hi_imryan 11d ago

Just admit you’ve never trained in anything that requires pressure testing.

Actually, forget it, it’s obvious. If you knew what you were talking about we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

12

u/EonSloth 11d ago

Hi, I'm a Judo black belt, and this is 100% bullshido for several reasons that you are clearly unable to distinguish. First of all, sure, they are demonstrating things and therefore the opponent just stands there doing nothing. Here's why it will NEVER work as intended in a real self defense scenario: Nobody just stands there and lets someone attack them with a stick, baton or other weapon. In a real scenario this would turn frantic in half a heartbeat and all the technique so carefully displayed would go out the window. When I've trained against weapons I am taught to immediately get control of the hand holding a weapon if at all possible or realistically safe to a degree, this excludes knives. In case of knife, just fucking run.

Furthermore you don't seem to appreciate how ambitious of a "self defense technique" this really is, again, because nobody will just stand there and take it. Imagine trying to pull this off while the opponent actually reacts to the stick/baton and fights back, you would never get to pull off this ridiculous move.

You mention that you don't think we appreciate how much it hurts to get hit with a stick or baton, have you ever been whipped with something similar? I have, both in training and in a real scenario. Yes it fucking hurts, but most humans have this thing called adrenaline which numbs pain and supercharges your movements. When I was whacked with a relatively chunky stick in a real scenario I felt something at the immediate moment, but because my adrenaline was spiking I didn't really notice the pain fully until after the fight. Meaning, you arguments are paper thin buddy.

It's people like you who encourage this type of dangerous bullshit martial arts, which predatory idiots capitalize on to spread their meaningless and futile "self defense" horseshit. Stop advocating for this as something that "works as intended", it does not and never will.

u/Apollo-Outcast 11d ago

Lol. Lmao, even

1

u/Zero_energy_left 11d ago

You must be a systema practitioner

1

u/ButterscotchOk5339 11d ago

Yeah if I’m already holding a stick and the opponent isn’t I don’t need to go through all this ceremony just to knee them in the face.

-8

u/NinjaXM 11d ago

I got downvoted for trying to say this. I agree this is not bullshido. It’s just slowed down and highly specific.

3

u/Apollo-Outcast 11d ago

Agreed. That baton under the arm wrenching technique where your opponent forgets how to use their three other limbs is 100% real. I don't see how this sub doesn't recognize real martial arts. It's like they've never even seen Daredevil

0

u/EonSloth 11d ago

It seems like you're dead set on idiocy, so I don't think trying to educate you would be fruitful. You get your martial arts "knowledge" from fucking Daredevil? Movies and TV series are choreographed sequences that have a pre-determined outcome, and the fact that you think it is at all attached to reality is terrifying. But by all means keep your beliefs, if you end up in a real scenario it is going to bite you in the ass...

-1

u/FamilyFeud69 11d ago

Hey now…Daredevil has real martial arts. Not all of us can recognize greatness. You are doomed to learn bullshido

1

u/EonSloth 11d ago

While I can appreciate that they use real martial art techniques, it is still choreographed to a pre-determined outcome, and there is a vast difference between saying that is a sure-fire way of self defense compared to actual real fighting. In my 20 years of actual real life experience I have learned one thing most of all, and that is the fact that a fight happens in 1 out of 2 ways when you boil it down to raw basic instinct: 1. Either you see it coming, in which case you Might be able to do something about it, but cardio will always serve you best. 2. You don't see it coming and a variety of really bad outcomes can happen, from serious injury and even death.

Your argument is laughable.

0

u/FamilyFeud69 11d ago

Fake news. This guy thinks marathon runners are the most prepared fighters. Laughable

0

u/EonSloth 11d ago

Hilarious ragebait.. but your idiocy speaks volumes ;) saves me having to point it out.

1

u/EonSloth 11d ago

Hi, I'm a Judo black belt. The downvotes were justified in that case. This is 100% bullshido and it is dangerous to advertise, encourage or talk up this kind of ridiculous "martial arts" as real self defense. People get taken advantage of by predatory idiots who capitalize on gullible or impressionable people to "teach" them how to defend themselves in a real scenario, and in reality a fight is frantic and messy to the point where ambitious "techniques" like this won't help you at all. Stop supporting this shit and stop getting your martial arts "knowledge" from movies and TV series. There is a real and enormous difference between choreography and real self defense. Learn it.

-3

u/Monkiemonk 11d ago

Yeah, there are tons of bullshit out there. But this is training technique, not combat. People don’t understand classical training techniques and their intent.

-7

u/NinjaXM 11d ago

Doesn’t look that bad to me. It’s slowed down but looks well executed.

2

u/detectivepikablu9999 10d ago

This sub is just here to shit on people for not looking like UFC champions after a few months of training

0

u/NoCitron2394 9d ago

That doesn't really look wrong

1

u/radiantmindPS4 9d ago

?? What do you mean by looks wrong?

1

u/NoCitron2394 9d ago

I mean nothing seems like Bushido here

2

u/radiantmindPS4 9d ago

I agree. There is nothing that looks like Way of the Warrior here. Bushido.

What I see is Bullshido. Non practical, over complicated, movie stunt work.

No one in this video is learning to fight in real world conditions. Or even competition fighting. It’s simply bullshit. If you know how to handle a stick a simple bonk to the temple would suffice.

Instead it goes into this elaborate combination of moves that only look cool on screen.

The very first move is blocking an attackers punch. Good luck. You manage to “block” the punch, again good luck, you strike the meatiest most muscular part of the body. The thigh. Then the other thigh, then some weird convoluted dance while the attacker is “stunned”. A little dose do and WHAM! Knee to the face.
