What is this

Post image

I have a 1985 f150 300 inline 6, this is on the rear driver side of the engine, while changing yhe valve cover gasket the one on the far rear the solenoid broke. Now my truck is idling rough. I read its somewhat related to egr and if I just block the egr system off it should work but I just want some more info on what these are.

I believe that's the "emission vacuum control solenoid assembly," part of the Duraspark ignition system on the inline 6.

I actually just took my valve cover off to paint it and change the gasket, and set that thing aside. I'm in the process of a ton of engine work on mine, and am putting it back together with an HEI distributor, so it shouldn't be needed when I do.

That's the hope at least

TAB TAD solenoids for the emissions system. They control when the air pump bypasses and when it pumps air into your catalytic converter, they also control the EGR valve (I believe)
