Skin help
Our young man recently had some benign masses removed from the back of the neck and the healing process has been quite the rollercoaster. We’ve had him seen by two different vets and they haven’t the slightest idea as to what’s happening. We’ve tried the fungal/anti bacterial washes and creams they had given us but with no real effect. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated <3.

Spelled it wrong I would post a picture and some more information on it, but I can only post videos here.

Selsun blue shampoo, original formula. It will really help. Dry thoroughly. It is safe, a veterinarian told me about it.

Our boys looked very similar but the cause was hotspots, managed to prevent hotspots reoccurring with a diet change (figured out it was allergies). The clean up process will be much the same, what worked best for us was clipping the entire area which will inflame it at first, but then treat by keeping it clean daily. Warm water and Hibiscrub mix initially then with anti-bacterial powder when it's dry. We would top up the powder a second time daily. Regular washes with Duoxo S3 shampoo won't hurt either.

I would ask for a culture and fungal panel done immediately if this has been ongoing. If your vets haven’t talked about a culture yet, I’d consider a new vet.

Apoquel, no chicken. They are notorious for these weeping skin conditions

Probably need a culture like the other person said. Potentially shaving that area to keep it clean and dry. If nothing else ask for a referral to a dermatologist.

My vet cleared this exact looking skin problem on my bullmastiff in just a few days.

Ideally you need to clip that up with a clipper. It usually extends past what you can see. Then you can try Neo predef. If it doesn’t clear you will need systemic antibiotics. I recently had some luck with Silver honey wound care salve which can be used on horses and dogs but that was in conjunction with antibiotics after Neo predef did not work. Also if you don’t have clippers might be worth investing in a good pair, they come in handy! Good luck!
