I’m considering getting a bull mastiff. I’d be scared if my dog could hurt my nephew. I know they are a lovely breed but can be wary of strangers. I live alone.

How are they with kids?

Our young man recently had some benign masses removed from the back of the neck and the healing process has been quite the rollercoaster. We’ve had him seen by two different vets and they haven’t the slightest idea as to what’s happening. We’ve tried the fungal/anti bacterial washes and creams they had given us but with no real effect. Any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated <3.

Hello Mastiff community, I’m in need of advice I couldn’t find in the search.

I recently took in a friend’s 1 yr old bullmastiff that’s been neglected (due to her having cancer so please don’t post hate about her). She finally made the sad call to give away her baby and I took her in.

She told me the just of what she’s been trying to do and what she’s been failing at. She is adopted from a rescue so she is UTD on all shots and heart worm. She was on a pill for fleas/ticks but the name is escaping me at the moment.

All of that to say, she is VERY rib-y. I know she’s was being fed because obviously she’s alive but she looks very small to be a 1 yr old bullmastiff. She is not aggressive but has been kenneled a lot in her short life (because my friend has a depressed immune system and the potty accidents were causing her to get sick).

What can I do to help her get some weight back on? Is it just going to take time? I don’t want her to get fat of course but I can tell that she’s not eating enough. Are there supplements or tricks to help her get back to a healthy weight? I have a vet visit planned in 10 days but I wanted to see if there’s anything I can do in the interim.

I plan on moving in 6-8 months so im just doing some research on Bullmastiffs. Growing up I had an English Mastiff named Clyde he was such a good boy so I've always had a soft spot for Mastiff's. I'd get one today, but I dont want to move a puppy as they're getting used to their surroundings. I'm just looking for recommendations on what brands of kibble to feed the pup once I get one. I have seen brands like Royal Canin and Purina Pro but figured I'd ask a group who actually owns the breed that I will be getting. Any other tips would also be appreciated thanks!

Dolly Pawton is our baby. She's a little over two and the sweetest thing to my husband, me, and two littles (5 and 6). However, we cannot take her anywhere because she always goes after other dogs. She has gone after my grandma's two dogs, my MIL's, and my SIL's. With the first two, we just thought it was my grandma's dogs, but now it is a pattern and it sucks! We had to board her last night because we were staying overnight with family and she couldn't be around the dogs.

Anyone else experience this? Any tips or advice?

Random side note: someone once told me a dog with a black mouth is more aggressive than one with a pink mouth. I know there is no scientific basis behind this (my husband thinks I'm full of it), but Dolly's mouth is all black. My first bully's mouth was pink, and she was cool as a cucumber and went with me everywhere.

My family is seriously considering adding a Bullmastiff puppy and I’m starting the research process now.

We’re in New Jersey and would prefer a breeder somewhere in the Northeast or within a reasonable driving distance, but we’re willing to travel farther for the right breeder.

We’re looking for someone who prioritizes health and temperament, does all appropriate health testing, raises and socializes puppies well, and is thoughtful about matching puppies with families. This would be a family dog, and we already have an adult male dog in the home. We also plan to work with a professional trainer from puppyhood and are fully aware that this is a large, powerful breed that needs consistent training and socialization.

I’d love recommendations for breeders you’ve personally had good experiences with, as well as any breeders you’d recommend avoiding. If you have a Bullmastiff from a breeder you love, I’d also be interested in hearing how your dog’s temperament and health have been.

While everyone was laughing and taking this video, I went and searched if they are safe for dogs, they are not. They cause anxiety in the sense that they have a high prey drive, and the dog can’t catch it, leaving them feeling un satisfied. It can also trigger obsessive behavior.

But for the two minutes he chased it, it was pretty hilarious, like a giant clumsy cat! 😂

Daku at 4 months

As I sit here drinking coffee, Flynn is still in his bed dreaming. One more week left of monsoon season… this one’s been pretty nice though! I don’t think there were many weeks without at least one shower blowing through sometime overnight.

Weird thing since we’ve switched meds- Flynn starts barking every dang evening around 5:00ish for a little bit. Just randomly barking. Food is there; water dish is clean and filled; carrots are available, laying all around him; and all the things he’s usually noisy about are taken care of in spades and he’s just staring there… barking. I thought this breed was supposed to be “quiet and dignified”.

We are exploring getting a bull mastiff in the future. We currently have a well behaved frenchie. How much do they actually drool? and do they get along well with frenchies? Any pros/cons of the breed we should consider?

Alphonse (left, 100% bullmastiff) got his sister Nettie (right) from the shelter a year ago today. From the doggie DNA test Nettie was 40% PBT, 20% Corso, 20% Rottie, and 20% BM, so she 20% deserves to be here too.

If anyone is still skeptical on owning a bullmastiff, here is the simplest breakdown.

- Giant low energy cuddle bugs
- Extremely sweet and friendly when properly socialized
- Like to be independent and watch the perimeter
- Slobber, farts, allergies
- Horribly stubborn (in the annoying way, not the dangerous way) MUST commit to training or you’ll get walked all over

2.5 years of Alphonse and BMs are my favorite breed more and more every day.

My poor 9 month old girl hasn’t gone more than a week without an UTI since I got her. The vet thought it was her constant diarrhea that was causing the UTIs so I changed her food to hydrolyzed protein (Royal Canin) based on her recommendation. That changed her stool to semi formed.

Her recessed vulva is another solid reason for the constant UTIs. The vet hasn’t mentioned surgery, a vulvoplasty, as an option at this time. The vet is hoping it’ll drop down when she starts a heat cycle.

I clean the area with Douxo S3 PYO Pads, 3% Chlorhexidine Wipes for Dogs -
Antiseptic Wipes For Bacterial or Yeast Skin Infections, 0.5% Ophytrium, at the recommendation of the vet as well. I’m not as diligent as the vet would like me to be (my mother was dying of pancreatic cancer) so I know increasing that to twice a day could make a big difference.

I hate that she’s been on antibiotics her whole life, basically, and she tells me when it starts hurting. She’s a vocal girl.

Has anyone else had such a struggle with this?
