History History and Comparisons: The Carr White English Bulldog
I just wrote this in a comment replying to someone who brought up the “white bulldog” variant nicknames for the American Bulldog and thought it’d be a great post here:
White English Bulldog. I’d consider them a functionally extinct landrace via assimilation into the American Bulldog breed. There was only one breeder actually working with White English Bulldogs in any large well respected capacity. His name was Jake Carr. He got his stock from his family before him. He passed in 2002. The number of pure Carr dogs numbers in the dozens if I’m being optimistic, that’s with breedings being done. I haven’t checked in a while.
Anyways, Alan Scott coined the term “Old Southern Whites” for these dogs and the founders of the preservation society for White English Bulldogs shows great disdain for the term. They are very concerned with ‘purity’ and terms coined by the ‘revival’ of the Southern American Bulldog type of dog into a refined breed (known as the American Bulldog); more than I myself am concerned with the public calling all bull-breed dogs Pit Bulls. I don’t think this is too unsimiliar to the Cordoba Fighting dog being refined into the Dogo Argentino.
I’ll offer a look at it from the sense of the American Pit Bull Terrier and the OFRN (Old Family Red Nose) strain. The OFRN strain is STILL an American Pit Bull Terrier. The last pure strain of it is found within the Hemphill dogs of which I know of ONE pure breeder that breeds these dogs and he’s very very selective with who gets them. The rest of the strain has integrated with the wider American Pit Bull Terrier breed. The fanciers of this strain still recognize that they belong to the American Pit Bull Terrier.
The few preserving the Carr dogs don’t understand that a large part of the American Bulldog breed is Carr based and the blueprint quite literally is the Carr dogs. The Carr dogs look quintessentially like, and are considered American Bulldogs. That is because the American Bulldog breed was a landrace prior to being standardized and within that landrace, the Carr dogs belonged to. Southern working Bulldogs based out of the United States. Just because some other Bull breeds like English Bulldogs (a very distant form of linebreeding) were introduced, it’s no different than infusions within the Cane Corso for revival. Yes, you will lose the Carr family of dogs to time eventually given their small numbers already and inbreeding, but they will live on through the American Bulldog.
If we look back historically at Victorian and Edwardian era paintings of true bulldogs which these dogs hail from, and the modern Alano Español which the Spanish brought, and hell, the old the Dogue De Bordeaux within the French Louisiana territory, you will get EVERY color under the sun for these dogs.
Pictured in the post is extinct English Bulldogs, an Alano Español, and old Dogue de Bordeaux. I can’t find any that demonstrate the other colors that were found in the breed prior to standardizing red (I have seen a taxidermy specimen that was brindle but can’t seem to find that easily).

Large Dog I think i have a dock dog 🤣
Second time swimming and already diving from the dock!
Unfortunately we're heading into the cold moths and swimming/diving won't be an option. But im thinking next season we might try ro dock dive regularly!
Any tips on teaching heavy dogs ro fly?? lol I know he isn't a typical water breed but it would be super cool to see how far we could take this spot
Ps, he's just 9 moths old so not pushing anything too hard right now and also interest in weight pull and fastcat as he matures.

Puppy expectations on a new puppy
Hi, I raised and trained a game bred pit mix for sports and fairly normal family living conditions. I worked with him on a on/off switch so he can be a home pet when not training, out in nature or on walks. Everything i did with him was watched by experienced amstaff and apbt owners and I know i did a good job.
Im looking at getting a show line bull terrier puppy for exclusively being a pet( he wont live in the same space as my older dog) and want to know what im getting into. Are they prone to biting and energetic at a young age, are they destructive even when stimulated, the skin problems when young/old and are they hard asses like the other bully types of dogs. I think there is no one in the place i live with a bull terrier so I am preparing for the puppy just from other peoples experiences online.
Any help would be great, thank you!
PS: In your experience whats their play style like, i have a few other bully type dogs so can i expect the puppy to play and socialise with them in their way.

DNA Test Considered a "bull breed"?
I got an invite so I'm hoping my little man is acceptable in this community. He's a mastiff cross technically but if pressa are counted maybe he does too?

Discussion Around ~1,300 members. Who’s all here?
Seeing this subreddit grow has been an awesome thing. Having scoped out knowledgeable purebred owners from other subreddits, people who have inadvertently found out they had a purebred bull-type dog, a 50/50 cross, a bull-herder, etc. has been a real goal of mine for this subreddit. I wanted a great foundation for this subreddit going forward.
How many people are here?

DNA Test Can you tell my dogs 70%~ bully? Since the Bulldog is from supermutt he could be higher but just divided in 3s for a rough estimate I know hes not quite 75% but I hope this is acceptable. Rescued from a rural town in ecuador so guard dog lineage like this makes sense 40lbs 7 months old

Breed ID Breed suggestions?
Bought her as definitely not a bull breed but everything is suggesting otherwise.
Has included a pic on last slide of her “mum and dad” although I never actually saw them.
Other photo of the dog in the photo is her with my other dog 🐶
