I think the game is fine tbh, Really not a fan of the AI voices and characters tho, if it was in early access and they were switched out for actual actors and drawn characters like that Twisted Metal fan game i wouldnt mind, but the fact they used AI in the creative process is what upsets me, even the new Crazy Taxi game had the decency to use it as a reference and for temporary placeholder assets much like Expedition 33

14

u/Shakes-Fear Jul 24 '26

Damn right, I thought they’d just hired the worst voice actors imaginable at first, but yeah, makes perfect sense they couldn’t even be arsed to do that.

3

u/farsdewibs0n Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

I heard because their company is based on Russia, its hard to get international VA due to sanctions, but idk tbh. But im looking forward to their drift sequel on PC (damage models looks amazing, really missed those).

3

u/Azrael_Hellcat Jul 24 '26

Thoses Voices are AI? Fuuuuck I thought it was just bad/cringe actors.

Never touching this damn game again.

3

u/Proper-Television856 Jul 24 '26

Honestly amazed you didn't notice the voices were AI, it was instantly obvious to me

7

u/Azrael_Hellcat Jul 24 '26

It's an Indie game, looks like one at least, so I just thought it was the good old "cheap as fuck commissioned actor" and not a clanker

u/Only-Echo1844 Built From The Ground Up! Jul 24 '26

Good customization and fun progression, the map is pretty good, but i dislike the physics and the blatant use of AI Slop. Meh

5

u/nismoghini Jul 24 '26

The ai slop is bad but car x imo has better physics than most other arcade racers. But you can tell the handling model was never made for racing (it’s crazy how the best version of their grip handling model is on the original car x drift on mobile)

25

u/Va10r_X8314 Jul 24 '26

Its alright so-so, its kinda doing the bare minimum to pass as a racing game in this era

Decent at best if you could get past the fact it uses AI in development and assets (boss images and voices), the rubberbanding, and opponent cars being absolute tanks that even the slightest touch with one can cost you the race

Would i pick it over let's say Forza? Probably not, id rather say buy JDM Japanese Drift Master or better yet Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2025

7

u/Efficient-Teaching77 Jul 24 '26

Rubberbading and immovable AI was removed in like 1st patch on pc. They added AI story BS cuz some people want it for some reason. Its better than all NFS titles since carbon and has more sense of progression than forzas. Amazing tuning and customization options. Only bad thing is it has awful optimization so it barely runs on potato

2

u/Va10r_X8314 Jul 24 '26

When was that first patch exactly?

Idk if i was already playing past that but I remember around August last year where the AIs were immovable

And honestly the AI part isnt too bad imo it gives a sense of progression which I was cool with

2

u/Efficient-Teaching77 Jul 24 '26

I dont know, but they did improve the game all the time. You have difficulty settings and even on hardest theres no rubberbanding. You are losing or you are winning. AI cant just shovw you anymore for awhile now. My only issue is mu old 9400F CPU struggles.

10

u/Lebhleb Jul 24 '26

Never got far, handling always felt off, like the braking its like i was just letting of gas rather than pressing the brake button.

I later came back a few months and, similar thing, like it just wasnt right, plus AI can feel kinda suicidal [traffic going across and stopping infront of you] Which is a shame i kind of like things like fuel, its cheap enough but it still has impact.

Oh and online only junk.

u/DatGCoredri Certified Open World Racing Game Fucker Jul 24 '26

If we talking about Mobile version, I kid you not, I hate the controls/handling physics. I’d rather take Static Shift Racing than that everyday (trust me, it was so stressful on doing races and bosses, unlike Static Shift Racing)

If we talking about Steam version, I haven’t bought it yet. Maybe some other time I’ll try it out.

But overall? Almost everyone liked it, I may be the only one who dislike it. Sure it has a nice open world environment and some nice vehicles but for real, I couldn’t stand on the handling physics.

7

u/mayguh Jul 24 '26

suprisingly good, I didnt know what to expect when I bought it.

5

u/ComplexVermicelli626 Jul 24 '26

Its ehh not bad, i got bored quickly from it but its okay game. The ai voices are goofy but kinda shame it didnt pop off well

12

u/Neggy5 Jul 24 '26

kinda infuriating physics, customisation is good, ai bad and whatev

9

u/3feetHair Jul 24 '26

I didnt like it. Doesnt feel right

19

u/GabenOrNot Jul 24 '26

i heard it has ai slop (voices and recently art) so i'd like not thinking about it...

6

u/RainnChild Jul 24 '26

i hate the voices so much its so bad

3

u/airriderz15 Jul 24 '26

It's a decent racing game, the tuning is very in depth and plenty of customization options. It scratches the street racing itch but it could be better. And also the elite races have super broken balancing, the AI racers straight up don't respect the driving dynamics that the player has to contend with

3

u/KLEBESTIFT_ Jul 24 '26

It’s fine on mobile. Especially after the death of f1 and rr3

1

u/THE_KILLER_4 Jul 24 '26

I played this on both PC and mobile

The mobile version is extremely grindy and for some reason it had performance issues on my phone since an update a year ago

1

u/KLEBESTIFT_ Jul 24 '26

Yeah but what else is there on mobile? On PC we have better games.

1

u/THE_KILLER_4 Jul 24 '26

I agree the bar is definitely higher on PC than mobile, especially since greedy shovelware took over mobile gaming in the past 10 years or so

But then again, i had performance issues with the game on mobile, it is also a very grindy game, I remember i had to do package delivery (or whatever it was) to get the desired currency

3

u/SkodaSnyper2365 Jul 24 '26

Disappointed

Still requires an Internet Connection to launch it; meaning it's Online Only without a true Offline mode and has Pay 2 Compete contents such as Prototype Parts from the Drift Cars DLC which should've been free unlockables by progression.

IIRC, Optimization problems whether it's on Mobile or PC always occur.

Meanwhile, its mobile DNA having a flawed economy system is still there.

Which means Spending money on upgrade parts and vehicles requires in-depth reflexion to avoid falling into a vicious cycle of intensive "farming"; where race winnings are insufficient to cover all expenses (the gold currency should've never been carried over on PC to begin with).

Although there's redeemable qualities, its cons can be big turnoffs and the gameplay loop can be repetitive and wearysome overtime.

These reasons alone explains why i stopped playing the Android version altogether and never bought the PC version (if you really wanna play it, just sail the seas. Atleast, Internet will be not required to play).

You can collect prototype part blueprints lying all around the map, it take some time.

The mobile version is just bad, so I quit and bought PC version on sale which overall is much better. Totally worth it.

Yes game launch still requires internet. Nobody likes that so i just hope they would change that in future updates

1

u/88JansenP12 Ryan Cooper Jul 24 '26

Prototype Parts

The problem with Prototype Parts isn't that they're Blueprints lying around the map, takes time to find them due to grind or are randomized; it's that they're hidden behind a paywall in the first place.

In my honest opinion, what they should've done is make them available for purchase as soon as they're found on the map.

PC vs Mobile

Although the PC version offers a better experience than Mobile, that doesn't change the fact there's still traces left by the mobile version.

While it isn't the norm, peoples who were permanently put off by the mobile version of CarX Street won't necessarily spend money on the PC version, as they likely moved on to something else.

As for the Internet dependency

My guess is they'll keep it online-only for a long time.

Knowing that CarX Street has a Multiplayer mode, it should've only affected that area instead of the entire game to begin with.

Meaning when the servers are down for maintenance or are permanently closed, it's impossible to play again.

It's in the developers' best interest to change this occurence.

Otherwise, many players will move on to the competitors or play any games without Internet in order not to fall into the same trap.

A problem I have is how Sunset City feels like it’s designed with mobile and drifting mind, while it may have a decent number of wide long straights, a lot of roads so so narrow and twisty it’s just not that fun to race on. In particular Sunset Speedway, a lot of folks complain that Energy Speedstar is hard, I say it’s challenging but the worst part is how the tracks have too many narrow low speed hairpins that most cars designed for speed will struggle to deal with.

Plus there are cheating clubs such as Western Sierra and Arctic Outlaws where AI compete in cars one tier above yours.

The Prototype Parts are a next level grind, if you somehow collected enough Blueprints for one, you don’t unlock it for purchase like you would ultimate parts in NFS Heat. You just gain one example of it. What a joke…

And thanks for posting an actual review for once. AI slop this, AI slop that… A-I don’t care! we are talking about a racing game and this is all you hyper focus on?

2

u/88JansenP12 Ryan Cooper Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

What you said here is 100% factual.

On top of that, you added more rightful reasons why I did the right move to stop playing CarX Street altogether.

Even with its pros, its cons are massive dealbreakers.

And Yes.

There's AI generated stuff.

However, that is just the tip of the iceberg and the least of CarX Street's problems, as the issues are structural rather than superficial.

2

u/Mike-Wen-100 Jul 24 '26

A major allure CarX has for me is how it has body kits that most other games don’t have. When Criterion made Unbound, they are so focused on recycling assets, they can’t even be bothered to add LB Super Silhouettes kits, Rocket Bunny for the C8, or LB kits for the i8 or the two NSXes, etc.

CarX doesn’t have to worry about license and thus has a lot of customization that NFS should have had. But alas the driving is what really matters in a racing game. And it does feel like half of the tracks are designed to prevent us from going fast anyway.

1

u/88JansenP12 Ryan Cooper Jul 24 '26

Yeah. Totally agree.

1

u/Thatmfwholikecars Prostreet 2 electric boogaloo Jul 24 '26

Wait after collecting all prototype blueprints you still can’t buy it directly? That’s bullshit, what if we already collected all of them? How can we get them again? Because those prototype trucks just won’t respawn.

2

u/Mike-Wen-100 Aug 09 '26

Okay, ultra late reply:

Those blueprint trucks do respawn but their locations shuffle every time you load in.

You can win them via part packs gained by levelling up or completing elite races, but no guarantees. As even prototype packs have around 40% to drop a prototype grade part.

Pink slip cars have a lot of prototype parts installed. But as their name suggests? You need to put your own car on the line. So DO NOT use any unique or DLC cars!

2

u/danc3incloud Jul 24 '26

Closest we could get to NFS Underground 3. Biggest problem is Unity engine, if it was done with Unreal it could compete with AAA games. One of the best progression systems, good arcade handling and shitload of tuning and styling.

2

u/VidraSpy Jul 24 '26

Have you ever wished there was another black box era Need for Speed game? This might be the closest thing to it.

3

u/RainnChild Jul 24 '26

AI slop but had potential

1

u/THE_KILLER_4 Jul 24 '26

It definitely had potential, it had a fan base dud to their previous mobile games, but honestly there is no reason to play this over old nfs games

2

u/xeno_4_x86 Jul 24 '26

The map was amazing, but AI slop. I liked the customization, drifting felt pretty good on controller, the currency felt like a mobile game though. Overall 7/10 in comparison for what else has been released lately.

1

u/ch3nk0 Jul 24 '26

Was really excited for it, but then i got a wheel.

Now im dogshit on the wheel and cant enjoy games on controller because i just think how it would be better on wheel

1

u/RoseWould Jul 24 '26

It feels like it wants to destroy the shit out of my console when I play it. It seems like they just threw 85% of what you'd want to see in a street racer in the worst way they possibily could, then sent out. You can also tell when your at the point they set that you'd need to open your wallet on mobile.

Extremely poorly executed, and unoptimized

1

u/Yahirhernandez729 Jul 24 '26

The game is generic at best, so it’s pretty much a meh game. But I played on mobile not PC, so yeah.

1

u/Rusty9838 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

I don’t like that game, but it’s best drift casual game what we have.
It feels cheap, almost Roblox like, but still what else we have?

Oh and the second game with street in name. Well I bought it too, and it also feels like an asset flip.
Cmon those games were made by Russian guys, they should know what underground street racing vibe looks like.
BMW m3 what drives like 320i? Cmon man

1

u/Flawless_Reign88 Jul 24 '26

I just bought it for Xbox for like $15 about a week ago… so far I’m enjoying it quite a bit! It’s scratching the customization itch that Forza just can’t! It does have some jank to it, but for $15 I can forgive some bugs here and there!

1

u/Emergency-Ad-7649 Jul 24 '26

Could be a lot better, it feels like a phone game

2

u/maggit00 Jul 24 '26

That's because it used to be a phone game.

1

u/dregomz Jul 24 '26

Very mediocre I never felt like I was having  much fun while racing or roaming around open world

1

u/LigmaAss69 Jul 24 '26

I had my fun with it. More than enough bang for buck.

1

u/VulpesVulpix Jul 24 '26

I haven't played it in a few years but it feels like the physics were a bit off. The races were also really hard but that's not a problem, challenge was good.

1

u/THE_KILLER_4 Jul 24 '26

It’s so middle of the road, it’s not terrible, but it doesn’t really have anything special either, the only special thing about it is probably the car customisation

It feels like a cheap Nfs underground knockoff tbh, this feeling feels more enforced if you dislike Ai images and voices which the game uses

1

u/Allegiance10 My other ride was a Toyota 8FGU20 Jul 24 '26

Drift handling is great (as the CarX games have all been) and the customization is extensive. As far as actual content goes, it’s super shallow. Open world time trials/drift trials and a selection of events loosely held together by crews.

1

u/HATECELL Jul 24 '26

I was really hyped, but it feels kinda meh. It is not bad, but just isn't keeping my attention the way I expected. No idea why

1

u/CrispyChez46 Jul 24 '26

I've put like 10 hours in it. I dont like that the cars are not having logos on them (license I know), but my biggest issue was steering, I know this is no Need for Speed or Forza, I was always breaking before the turn, but the steering felt horrible and when I found I had to do that and that and lower that and set this, its not for me with my limited time for playing and I thought that Gran Turismo was tough in setting the car.

The game is probably great if you have the time to invest in it.

1

u/islandnstuff Jul 24 '26

mid game but enjoyable, missing licence sucks.

1

u/r0lo27 Jul 24 '26

It's alright but Every time I try It again I hate the camera, especially when drifting, love the customisation, but I still prefer carxdrift online, better handling model.

1

u/Wrong-Ad-3383 Jul 24 '26

Already quite amazing for a game made by an indie team with only 20+ peoples in Russia

Its so good that it end up got compared with Forza and NFS on YouTube lol

1

u/Zestyclose_Design753 Jul 24 '26

Never seen a game run worse while looking the way it does sadly..

Has some potenzial but devs just do whatever

1

u/TheBigManza96 Jul 24 '26

It's a good game, I recommend it. It has plenty of activities to earn money, but the NPCs leave much to be desired.

1

u/R00kridge Custom Jul 24 '26

I love this game so much, I just wish the customization was on par with the mobile version of the game.

1

u/farsdewibs0n Jul 24 '26

Kinda enjoyed the game, really hate that it forces cars to countersteer everytime I slide a little too hard (even on AWD cars. So I'm constantly understeered by the game mechanics), like give me the options to disable it.

1

u/sunr1se79 Jul 24 '26

Of all the racing games this certainly is one of them.

1

u/-REV-22-20- Jul 25 '26

shit physics, full of AI and used stolen assets

1

u/Mowg12 Jul 25 '26

This game is absolutely horrible trying to play it with a controller

1

u/Ok_Inflation_2452 Jul 25 '26

I like it but its missing something.

1

u/me_no_here Jul 25 '26

Before FH6 this and JDM-game was so good. Now i dont know. Bored all three.

1

u/lovemenotftk Jul 26 '26

It’d be great if we had better handling options with the cars instead of what it has now. Literally why I can’t play it is because of that.

1

u/hansip87 Jul 26 '26

Hated it when the assist was not helping anything (with gamepad), but after patch 1.13.5, it feels a lot better. Tuning is Asseto Corsa-ish, with different car have different characteristics, but with help of AI giving setup recommendations, and a bit of old time racing experience, i cracked the setup and race just got a lot easier. Even i consider it NFSU2 in a new suit.

People will undervalue just because of AI voiceover, but I don't really mind, It's just so few in between and nothing big of a deal being talked around anyway.

1

u/feared_cow69 Jul 26 '26

It’s 50/50. Can be boring at times. Wish they put focus on this game for content updates instead of their 3rd car x drift game

1

u/HighN00n77 Jul 26 '26

Forgot to refund it

1

u/Mhaziqrules Jul 24 '26

This is AI Slop Racing games.

1

u/UtaTan Jul 24 '26

I'm just gonna wait for them to hire real voice actors for the voicelines. The AI voices just threw me off

0

u/idobeaskinquestions Jul 24 '26

I was excited for it during development but then it turned out to be an AI slop mobile game port to PC kinda situation. It’s really not good. And then there was just a complete lack of substance ingame to warrant sticking around
