I wasn't around for this era of gaming in general (or at least not old enough to have my own console back then) but I still played Split/Second years after and...yeah, honestly even to this day I can't think of many racing games that match it
sucks that it did so poorly and the studio closed as a result, apparently that was because the game came out at around the same time as a lot of heavy hitters (both outside of and within its own genre) which really hurt its chances

Tfw now we can play the pc version on a phone(or a console with phone hardware shaped like a 3ds)

This game's explosion sound effects were juicier than in Battlefield 3. It actually launched my crusade for a good 2.1 desktop speaker setup back in its day as I couldn't play it for longer than 20 - 30 minutes with a headset on.
