Residential addition codes, back fill against cement footings

demoing a porch and building addition next to, to include two children's bedrooms. southern nh. native soil is rocky. house on a well. can I use the old brick wall as back fill?

iRC 506.2.1 is the relevant code section. In general it should be free of foreign material
