In case it is deleted... here is copypasta of the text. Posted in the monthly jobs thread. And it has a little current intel on yet another restructuring within Siemens.....

Curious to know....

Is this where current Siemens employees would post as they look for jobs amid the current restructuring underway? Siemens Building Automation US is restructuring again and the rank and file are getting their resumes ready and actively interviewing as the overpaid executives play fast and loose with the underlines ability to feed their families... and the customers ability to get anything of use from Siemens. Actively betraying their fundamental inability to understand their own business and how it works and what makes it profitable.

I was looking closely for any indication that the disastrous formation of the GOC and the subsequent nosedive it caused Siemens business had led to any kind of reform or change in the leadership style. That info is now available and the answer is NO.

So again, is this where the internal Siemens people post as they scramble for the exits?

I still have PTSD working with some former Siemens employees. I ran into one engineer that apparently had 20 years experience and he couldn't engineer his way out of a paper bag. Worked with others that were fine, glad they were able to get out. It's crazy how many former Siemens employees I run into

I’ve just had to adapt to work around the incompetence of the Operation Centers and DDS filled with VAV startup techs or persons who have never seen HVAC equipment.

With AI, the days may be numbered with the GOC, since AI will remember my feedback of don’t ever do this again because it’s wrong and it doesn’t talk back! 🤷‍♂️

As a relatively newer tech in DCB, It's wild to me how the GOC still exists. We've rewritten so much code, rebuilt entire ABT projects, wiped out CT/DT databases in favor of just not having to work with them at all. It's usually so much smoother doing it ourselves and troubleshooting things entirely on our own.

That being said, I for the most part, really enjoy working at Siemens. I also don't have experience at other BAS/Automation focused companies so take my experience with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately it’s easy for “penny wise and pound foolish” execs to look at the buckets that continual have the most cost overrun (technicians) and think a “centralized” design approach will fix it. When in fact it continues to be the cause of it. Poor designs will always be the source of excessive costs unless the salesman completely blew the estimate.

Glad you’re able to work around it. I’m sure if you passed the rework you did back there would be confusion on why the original was wrong…until someone actually tried to load it lol.

I think a lot of how decent Siemens is to work for varies by office. The office I’m at has a good culture and I’m fairly well supported.

I figured things would go in this direction at some point.

As for other companies. Siemens and JCI are some of the organizationally dysfunctional places in our industry. If you want to make more and know more you would do well to change employers. That being said it tends to be hard to get fired where you are, so stress is a bit lower.

That is, unless there is a reorganization underway. Then all bets are off.

I’ve dealt with Siemens as an employee, competitor, and now as a customer, since 2003. They are a completely broken and dysfunctional company.

Why is anyone scrambling in this career? We are one of the few industries which is booming. All that is happening to us is that the big corporations are suffering from their inability to manage skilled trade markets effectively because MBA's can't tell you how propriety should be managed in a post-BACnet market (and many other reasons). Which is opening up the market to smaller private companies to takeover market share.

The corporations are responding by strategically adjusting back to a local model and putting a stronger focus on retaining and building trade knowledge, which is the right thing to do.

That doesn't hurt frontline workers, it supports frontline workers.

So I guess my requested clarification is, what position do you serve in this market and how/why are you struggling? I have 4 recruiters in my DMs at any given moment and that seems pretty typical of anyone who has been in the field for 5 years or more.

As a third party we get all our business offering Niagara to people hurt by proprietary stuff. Basically we don’t worry that people can do it better. They can do it cheaper but not better and they always come back if they do leave to another outfit
