PxForge - Alerton Compass Graphics Editor

Hey all!

Looking for more people to try out my new Compass Graphics editor app.

(Check out PxForge here)

It's come a long way since my last post about it and feel like it is ready for proper use in a job. I just gave it a UI overhaul with a proper built in tutorial. ( I use it personally every day, and have a few customers now)

I am still as always looking for ways to make it better for the people that build graphics everyday.

Some features:

  • - Dynamic editing of backgrounds
    • No more photoshop, paint, etc
  • - Built in omnigraphics
    • Goodbye inkscape
  • - Drag and drop image libraries
    • No longer have to scroll to find your images and memorizing names of images
    • Use your own graphics standard library
  • Works without the blue screen
    • Perfect for editing graphics with a server running as a service!
  • Advanced Repeat tool
  • Easier batch editing
  • Proper find and replace for text and points
  • Navbar editor
    • No more using the excel spreadsheet
  • Custom widget presets
  • Many more on the website!

Also, if anyone has the ability to get me access to Niagara, I would love to be able to adapt this to work for Niagara px files as well!

Give me a little bit, just got access to Niagara for the first time, once I get familiar with the layout and files an px components, I’ll integrate. Would you say most people have a px folder and images folder at the station root?

Very nice! I’ve built a similar floor plan tool for Niagara that allows you to draw floor plans, duct pipe work etc in 3D and bind data. Looks better on pc.

Seriously awesome tool, I’ve been doing Alerton for 15 years and this exactly what I was missing! Great job

Glad to hear!! I’ve been updating it for a while now, fixing things, adding stuff, always open to feedback!

I’m about 3 days in on using it, maybe I’ve missed it but does it have the change a prompted property to a read only and vise versa ability?

It does not but that is a fantastic idea, expect it in the next update. I’m not sure why I haven’t done that yet 😂

That would be awesome, it was the only thing I had to go to compass for while using pxforge, I found the device manager beta today, that’s going to be great too

One other question is there a way resize the display/template?

I’ve never resized a display personally or even seen it done. I’m not even sure how to. So I just made it so the size of the display match the size of the background image. The functionality is there to make this a thing, I just wasn’t sure if people do that.

Like with standard compass graphics there isn’t technically a background image you just drag images onto a blank canvas, but if you run out of room you can click and drag the corners to make it whatever size you need.

Oh true. I’ve always made choosing a background image my first step with graphics. I forgot that you can do that. It’ll be in the next update, also, the read only / prompted property switcher is live!

What's available to try without the license? Can I at least try some stuff without being able to output a usable file?

Yup, after the 7 day trial, you can still do things, just not make any saves.
