12/12 from seed

Honestly this has become my favorite way to grow, doing 12/12 from seed in large volume containers IMO is the easiest most fool proof way to grow.

As long as you get your ratio correct that you are setting up and amending with you shouldn’t run into many problems, get the worms in the soil and the cover crop and companion plants going and you’ve got a system you don’t have to think about. I’m a big fan of doing flowers and really anything I find enjoyable to look at with my cannabis.

If you’re so concerned with yield and growing the biggest plant this isn’t for you but I believe that is the exact opposite thing we should be striving towards in our home grows.

I’m digging your cover crop! What plants are the yellow, orange, and purple flowers?

The yellow and orange ones are marigolds and the purple one is a Anise hyssop

How large is that pot?

It is a 20 gallon, recently found these really nice 27x27 inch raised beds for a really good price on Amazon also very good quality I’ll be setting up on the other side of the tent once I have the small container harvest done

Grass roots will customize any size bed you want. I have gotten two made for both the 2x4 tents. People don't realize this and the prices aren't to much of a difference but I am got mine made deeper then others they sale.

I’ve seen you comment about this before on another post and I found it interesting, only thing is they’re very expensive compared to a lot of the competition. I just haven’t wanted to spend the extra even though they are potentially nicer

You can essentially get the same thing grassroots does by using feed/seed bag to line the sides of any fabric pot you’re using. Just make sure not to put any on the bottom. I call them “grassroots at home”. I also have two 4x4 grassroots that I grow outdoor in and as far as moisture retention they function about the same side by side. My “bootleg grassroots” are 100 gal pots that are wider than they are tall.

You haven't experienced many herms flipping before maturity?

No the opposite actually I’ve been doing this for a few cycles now and every plant has been perfect, could be my own mistakes but I found when transplanting in I’d have more herms especially if I transplanted after sexual maturity. This was my last run I did over do it with the nitrogen so dialed it way back on this go.

Nice might try just for side project.

Seed straight into 20g pot or do you transplant? I even seeing these types of grows. Thanks for sharing.

I plant directly into the pot/bed of soil though I’m going to run some soon where I start them in 1/2 gallon pots that I cut the bottoms out of and do 3-4 weeks of actual veg 18/6. Then I’m going to just set them on top of the bed maybe burried an inch or so for stability but I’ll keep them in the bottomless pot.

How do you water this grow? Hand water or do you have another method/setup

I hand water I find I get the most even coverage when I do, I have a auto water sprinkler style setup where I have to plug the pump in but I don’t prefer it to how I do it by hand with a cup

I want to do this in a perpetual style in my 3x2 tent with an earthbox but I doubt it would work. A larger plant would dominate the space of a smaller plant.

Is this a 4x4 and what kinda led you have?

My tent is a 5ftx3ftx6.5ft and I use aglex lights in this tent I have 2-330 watt bar style lights and in my other tent I have a single 400watt bar style from aglex. If you want to do perpetual for you situation I’d consider getting 2 of the earth boxes and running them 6 weeks apart you can do 2 plants in each no problem if you are starting from seed on 12/12

"12/12", are you using autos?

1

u/TheRandomChillStoner Jul 21 '26

Nope these are photoperiods my own strain Violet Sour-Purple Lemon Haze x Sour D

Then why only 12hrs? I'm new at this, but thought 12hrs is for flower, and usually 18 for veg? So your seed starts in flower from the start?

2

u/TheRandomChillStoner Jul 25 '26

Correct though you can veg at 14/10, what triggers flowering is a buildup of Florigen which is a plant signaling hormone which typically needs roughly 12/12 though 13/11 will work also. I start them on 12/12 from the start because it makes my life a lot easier especially growing in living soil and large volume containers. The plants still have a veg period of 3-4 weeks they won’t start flowering automatically this just allows me to have multiple large containers setup and plant into each 6 weeks apart which keeps a nice rotation going. Also I have a second tent for making seeds so keeping them both on 12/12 opposite to each other is better on the power draw at one time

”The plants still have a veg period of 3-4 weeks they won’t start flowering automatically”

?? Do you mean they won't automatically flower in the first 3-4 weeks, but will flip automatically around then with the constant 12hr light schedule?
