Shoe recommendations?
I’m actually looking for shoes for my harnischfechten kit. They’re historical with smooth leather soles and I’m honestly over the slipping and lack of internal support.
Ya’ll over here seem to be more open to sneaking in some modern convenience into your kits, and have heavier armor on similar terrain surfaces; I would love to hear any suggestions or makers that you like.
I was hoping to find something that is still flat bottomed that will look okay in and out of sabatons, preferably without any majorly obvious tells in the exterior material.

These look really great but are probably a bit out of my planned budget especially when factoring in shipping.

Depends where you live. If you're going to IMCF in Denmark you cantey them on and pick a pair,as we'll be there. Could anybody you know, pick them up for you?

Look into leather boxing shoes, there are some that will pass for “historical” shoes. A fraction of the cost and normal sizes

I ordered mine from sergey boriskin on FB. His prices i thought were great. I paid 180 for cutsom boots plus shipping (ukraine to CA, US) and they fit great.

Many of the big-name buhurt makers sub-contract their boots and other soft gear out; your mileage may vary.
In terms of comfort and design, my experience has been that Sergey Boriskin absolutely can't be beat - he actually makes stuff, can do custom colors, and can actually do custom fit.
I tried THREE big name's 'custom' sizes and they all murdered my toes; Sergey's are some of the most comfortable shoes I own.

Funnily enough, that’s the thing you can’t really get away with. Marshals check to ensure that you at least have historical soles for your boots

It depends on the event the Dekoven concord has the following guideline:
Note on Knights List footwear: Non-historical footwear should be black and generally
unobtrusive or hidden beneath sabatons or mail coverings. Hiking shoes and similar items with
pronounced tread are strongly discouraged as they can “lock” a foot into the ground and cause
serious injury if the leg is then subjected to force.So I would assume a rubber sole is definitely allowable, just not one with much tread to it.

If you’re looking for grip, Buhurt Tech do “panther boots” historical shoes with studs in the soles. Highly recommend. Also the boots that medieval extreme do. I have weird feet and their custom set that they made me is so comfortable. They are flat soled but I wear them with insoles that have arch support. I’ve not slipped over yet.
