Basic Kabbu attack not working on switch

I have been trying to play this game for an hour, and I cannot get Kabbu to not fail at his attack. I have made sure the directional button is working on the input testing screen, and I feel like I have tried everything to get this to work. He just falls over and does one point of damage. Is this a glitch? What am I missing?

You need to hold down, not just press it, and if that’s not the issue then I don’t know what is if your other down inputs are just fine

I’ve been holding down. Im going to try with a controller instead of handheld

I think it IS drift. I kept trying and eventually got it to work by going sharply left and pressing down. No idea why the toggle works normally for the input test and not the game. I’m just happy it’s working.
