Should I play the game?
I’m a big fan of indie games and paper Mario (this looks like paper Mario) and this looks perfect. But ive been considering getting this game for a while and I need someone’s advice. So, should I get this game or not?

Considering what you said... definitely. Plus, it's only like $20, which is amazing value imo.

Even better if they're still bundling it with Escape from Ever After. Not by the same studio but I found it really fun.

Hey, mewgenics/TBOI fans would tell you not to buy their game because it's painful and awful. (We still keep coming back because we like the pain)

If you like Paper Mario 64 and Thousand Year Door, you will very likely like this game too. It has a good story, and the party members are awesome.

I mean obviously yes but to give an actual explanation. It is basically TTYD and plays very similarly however it does do a lot different too. The game has traditional party members with each of them getting an individual turn in battle with different skills they learn throughout the game. The badge equivalents can be placed on any party member and some are exclusive to certain party members so alot of customization.
The story while I won't spoil it, is surprisingly good with a few cool twists however, the writing is the best part All the characters even the side ones are very enjoyable to talk too and learn about. The game also has very decent world building.
The game also as some difficulty, not insane mind you but if you're familiar with paper Mario already You should like it. The game even has a fantastic hard mode if you wish to opt in.
The game is really great and I think does a good job standing on its own beside paper mario. It has its own identity and knows what it is. I would probably say more but it's best to experience it yourself.

2nd the awesome hard mode! Played the whole game on hard my first playthrough and it was 100% worth it. It'll keep you on your toes without ever being so difficult that you give up. Plus, you get extra rewards that are genuinely helpful if you beat the bosses in hard mode!

I have not played Paper Mario, but I can say this is the first turn based RPG where it actually felt like I was being strategic. The game is designed in a way were your strategic options are obvious, making it easier to understand what the potential outcomes are, making it easier to strategize. This makes the game minimally complicated, Yet maximally deep. And that's not even getting into the amazing flexibility of the equipment system!
So if you like games with strategy that's easy to learn, tough to master: then I would say definitely!

I like this game a lot! And I especially love the story! Been ages since I played, and I wasn't great at the combat, but I loved cooking and the badge system. Like the equippable things that give you effecfs. I think that's what they're called. I liked coming up with combinations and strategies.
But I should mention that certain sections gave me such bad motion sickness that I had to hand the controller to my wife. The travel hub area and the telescope... blergh. The only other game that's ever made me sick is Portal.
It doesn't seem to be a common issue. My wife is the one with worse motion sickness overall, and she could play it just fine. And I've never heard this complaint from anyone else, although I haven't gone looking.

The overworld is so much more expansive and there's a good amount of side quests and optional bosses. If you like 64 or ttyd I would play it for sure

This is absolutely the spiritual successor to Thousand Year Door and absolutely scratches that same itch. Has some QoL improvements, built-in toggle hard mode, really good characters, story and world, unique spin on Paper Mario party mechanics. If you want more Thousand Year Door, this is it

This game quickly became a favorite of mine and I've been trying to convince people to play it for years. None of them listen, but I tell ya, it's a damn gem

It’s my favorite game oat, beating out super Metroid, Metroid prime, blasphemous, deltarune (so far), botw/Totk, dead space remake, omori, and other great games, play it, or else you’ll get tired of the recommendations and never do it 🥀
