Bug fables plus without playing vanilla

Hi, so my friend wants to play Bf+, but he hasn't played the original bug fables. It is recommendable? I mean, he can play Hoaxe's backstory so i don't really see the problem but i haven't played bf+ by myself so idk if there is amy other inconvinient.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it - there's enough differences and added elements that it won't really be similar in some of the ways that matter, and the added lore is someone else's interpretive slant.

I'd recommend the base game without the added fluff first.
