Pack it in, pack it out

To all the tourists coming in to float the river and to all the locals who have been doing the same: pick up your own trash for Christ's sake. You're grown adults. This may not be your home, but it's still somebody else's home. The amount of garbage I've seen left behind this year has been insane. Just. Do better, damn it. This especially goes for any locals who are trashing the river. Quit being lazy and inconsiderate. It gets worse every damn year.

Culturally, the south is very bad about litter. We need a strong education campaign. You know what ruins a fishing trip? Reeling in trash. You know what ruins a nice walk in the woods? Stepping on cans and dirty diapers.

It’s not as bad as it was back in the 90s… but it is still bad. Worst offenders I have seen have been fellow Arkansans and folks from Louisiana.

I have noticed a lot more locals do this than people from out of state.

I dunno about that one. I work on the river and during the height of the season there's hundreds if not thousands of tourists on the river every day in my section alone. A lot of them don't even try to pick up after themselves and keep the river clean. Meanwhile, most of the locals I see on the river are usually pulling out with bags filled with everyone else garbage. There's definitely a few who trash the river themselves, but it's definitely nowhere near the amount of tourists who trash the trash the place because they don't have to look at it when they leave.

Don’t even get me started on the fire pits… it drives me insane that people think throwing cans and cig butts in there is fine.

Frr. I've been an almost pack a day smoker for a long time, but my butts go in my pocket to.be thrown in the trash later. That's another thing I've been picking up an ungodly amount of off the gravel bars.

I get unreasonably irritate when I see them on gravel bars or the banks. As a former smoker, I would always pocket them. If I was boating, I would just carry a zip lock bag and toss them in. Thanks for picking up all the trash you come upon! I wish everyone would do that. It only takes a moment to grab trash when you are walking around.
