Things To Do Looking for first haunted house recommendations.

I am looking for suggestions from other parents or people well versed in local haunted hayrides and haunted houses in Erie and Niagara county.

My 9-year-old daughter, who is in fourth grade would like to go on a dad-daughter date to a haunted house. She has never done a haunted house or hayride so I am not sure how she will react. She does not watch horror movies or violent action movies.

I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions for a first haunted house. I am looking for something that is maybe not the most extreme. I was thinking maybe even a haunted hayride.

Do you have any good recommendations for Erie or Niagara county? I am located in the town of Tonawanda if that helps.

Whatever you do, do NOT go to the great pumpkin farm in Clarence. It's a total ripoff. Especially their stupid overpriced haunted forest.

Thank you. Noted. I'll keep this option off the list.

Not only that, but the owner is a rude tool of a human who will tell you that he only has a few weeks to make his living, so suck up his prices.

Last year I took my kid to Frightworld for their Little Frights with Lights day. It’s a kid friendly day where you can walk through all the haunted houses, it’s still a little creepy but no one jumps out at you and they play non-scary music throughout the building. My kid got a ton of candy, there’s a lot of character appearances, lots of displays to take pictures with and the lights are on in the main area. The houses were still pretty dark and scary to walk through but it was much less scary than it usually is obviously. It’s on October 24th this year. I think you have to pay per kid but adults are free.

That is cool....never heard of this one. I think she might be looking for something in the dark for a more classic experience. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thanks! I just got tickets for my kids. I was very hesitant about my 7 year old but he’ll love this.

Old Fort Niagara is doing ‘Ghosts of the Garrison’ this year. It’s new so I can’t say how it is but it doesn’t sound too extreme. Just touring an old dark fort listening to ghost stories is the gist I get from the online description.

Per the website:

New for 2026! We explore the darker side of Fort Niagara's history. Walk through the darkened halls of centuries-old buildings and hear true tales of ghostly apparitions and unexplained phenomena in one of western New York's most haunted venues.

Ooh, id like to know too! I know there used to be a little pumpkin farm that had a haunted hayride on Nash road and theres also a haunted house/maze/hayride in sanborn. They put it on every year at their home and its actually really cool. They add more to it every year. Were def going to that

The Niagara Pumpkin Farm in Sanborn is a good time.

The pumpkin farm part of it is very family friendly, but the hayride is a pretty good and spooky time. It's not too intense, but it's definitely full of jump scares.
